NBN Fibre Splicer, Vac Truck Operators & Field Labourers – Multiple Roles

SIKAT Communications is a growing contractor delivering telecommunications and NBN infrastructure works across South East Queensland. Due to secured workloads, we are seeking crew members for the following field-based roles:

- Fibre Splicer — experienced in splicing, testing, fault finding and troubleshooting

- Vac Truck Operators — experienced in non-destructive digging around telco infrastructure

- Field Labourers — entry level, with the opportunity to learn and be trained into a technician role

Fibre Splicer

Splicing, jointing and testing across the NBN network — new build, network extensions and fault rectification, tested and closed out through Delivery Partner field software.

- Minimum 2 years fibre optic splicing experience in a telecommunications environment

- Proven fusion splicing experience — loose tube and ribbon

- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and diagnose network faults independently in the field, including tracing high loss, breaks and incorrect terminations back to the source

- OTDR and power meter testing, fault location and interpretation of test results

- Experience splicing in joints, pits, LCPs, FDHs and multiports

- ACMA Open Cabler Registration with Fibre endorsement

- Confined space and working at heights tickets — highly desirable

- Certificate III in Telecommunications — desirable

Vac Truck Operators

Non-destructive digging, exposure and identification of telco infrastructure, and pit & pipe / conduit access works. Operators work within small crews across multiple sites and are expected to assist with general field tasks when required, not just drive.

- HR / MR Licence — essential

- Vac truck operation experience in a civil or telecommunications environment

- Minimum 2 years civil or telecommunications field experience





- Solid understanding of working safely around underground services and assets

- Ability to identify copper and fibre cables and related infrastructure

- Traffic Management tickets — highly desirable

Field Labourers

Supporting the crews with pit access and clean out, site set up and pack down, materials handling, traffic control support and assisting the technicians. A genuine opportunity to learn the trade on the job and progress into a technician role.

- Genuine interest in learning the telecommunications trade

- Reliable, punctual and willing to take direction

- Previous civil, construction or labouring experience — desirable

General Requirements

- Manual Driver’s Licence and White Card — essential

- National Police Check / NCCHC clearance and NBN Enable accreditation, or willingness to obtain

- Understanding of, or willingness to learn, NBN pit & pipe networks and end-to-end network pathways

- Experience reading plans, job packs and Delivery Partner field software (Splicer and Vac Operator roles)

- Physically fit and capable of labour-intensive, all-day field work

- Able to work productively within a small crew and travel across SE Queensland

- Own transport and mobile phone

This work is physically demanding and requires strong motivation. We want people who contribute consistently to crew productivity, safety, quality and output. Evidence of experience and current tickets will be required for the Splicer and Vac Operator roles.
