Wagga Wagga
NSW Community Engagement Manager
- Wagga Wagga based
IREN is looking for someone deeply connected to the Wagga Wagga community.
About IREN
IREN began in 2018 with a vision: to create the real world infrastructure needed to support the growing digital world. Founded in Australia, we operate data centres that strengthen rural communities while stewarding natural resources. IREN is a publicly listed company on the Nasdaq, providing computing capacity to technology leaders like Microsoft, NVIDIA, Together AI, Perplexity and Figure AI.
We have operating data centres in North America and in Australia, IREN is developing the 800 MW Bundey Data Centre in regional South Australia and is now proposing the 900 MW Redbank Data Centre near Wagga Wagga in New South Wales. It is a long-term investment in the region, bringing jobs, local spending and community investment. Find out more about the project at http://redbankdatacentre.com.au.
The opportunity
IREN is looking for someone who is deeply connected in the Wagga Wagga community to help build an open, respectful relationship between the proposed Redbank project and the local community.
This is a role about listening as much as informing. You will be IREN’s local point of contact. You’ll make sure neighbours, landholders and local organisations receive timely, accurate information directly from IREN.
You’ll also make sure their views, questions and concerns are genuinely heard within the business and taken into account as the project progresses. It is not a desk-based role. You’ll spend much of your time out in the community, getting to know people and being a familiar, accessible presence.
You’ll sit within IREN’s Corporate Affairs and Community team, focusing on Wagga Wagga and supporting any future IREN projects across regional NSW.
What you’ll be doing
- Listening to community feedback and working with IREN’s project teams to respond to questions and concerns in a timely, open and respectful way
- Building and maintaining relationships with neighbours, landholders, local businesses, community groups, Traditional Owners, local media and local government
- Being an accessible, familiar point of contact for residents, available for informal conversations to share project information and hear people’s views firsthand
- Being IREN’s presence at community life across Wagga Wagga, from local sports events and school carnivals to music events, sporting clubs and community dinners. That includes setting up and staffing information stalls
- Helping shape and distribute project information and collateral so it’s clear and relevant to local audiences
- Supporting IREN’s community investment program, including grants and sponsorships that make a real difference locally
- Keeping an accurate record of community interactions, enquiries and feedback, and making sure every one is followed up
- Occasionally travelling to IREN’s other Australian sites, including in South Australia, to support the company's broader community engagement
About you The most important qualification for this role is a genuine connection to the Wagga Wagga community. Your background matters much less than your relationships and local networks. You might have worked in local government, a state or federal electorate office, local media, small business, agriculture or community services.
You might also come from communications or community engagement.
Experience in energy, infrastructure or data centres is not required by highly relevant. IREN can teach you about the company, our technology and services, your local knowledge and relationships can’t be taught.
You’ll likely bring
- Connections across the Wagga region, whether that’s with council, community organisations, sporting clubs, schools, landholders or local businesses
- Warm and approachable, with the ability to connect with anyone, from a farmer at the fence line to a councillor at a dinner
- Positive judgement, discretion and genuine respect for differing views, including from those who have concerns about the project
- Clear, plain-English communication skills
- Flexibility to attend community events outside standard business hours
- 10+ years in the workforce
Location
Wagga Wagga is strongly preferred. Candidates in other regional NSW centres will be considered. Sydney-based applicants will only be considered if you have strong stakeholder connections across regional NSW and can commit to regular regional travel.
Why IREN
- You’ll help shape how one of the largest investments in the region’s history becomes part of the community
- You’ll be part of delivering local economic opportunities and community benefit funding
- You’ll join a fast-growing, globally listed company, with a competitive salary plus short- and long-term incentives
