Own payroll. Improve how we work. Help shape the future of People Operations.
At HPX Group, we're looking for an experienced payroll professional who wants to do more than run an accurate and compliant payroll.
We're looking for someone who takes pride in getting the details right, enjoys solving problems and is curious about how systems, processes and technology can make work better for everyone.
You'll take ownership of payroll across our growing Group, lead a small team and work closely with our People and Finance teams. You'll also have the opportunity to contribute to broader People Operations, helping us simplify processes, improve the employee experience and shape how we work as the business continues to evolve.
This could be a outstanding next step for an experienced Payroll Manager, or a technically strong Senior Payroll Specialist or Team Leader who's ready to take on more.
Who are we?
HPX Group is a growing professional services business, bringing together talented people to solve complex client challenges.
We're ambitious about what we're building, but equally committed to how we build it. We believe that creating an exceptional experience for our people is fundamental to delivering an exceptional experience for our clients.
Our People team plays an important role in making that happen.
The opportunity
Reporting to our Chief People Officer, you'll be trusted to lead and continually improve our payroll function across the Group.
Your focus will be on:
- Owning payroll: Ensuring our payroll is accurate, timely and compliant, with strong controls, processes and reporting.
- Bringing technical expertise: Staying across Australian payroll legislation, superannuation, tax and regulatory requirements, and confidently resolving complex payroll matters.
- Leading and developing: Managing and supporting our People and Payroll Specialist, creating clarity, consistency and a excellent team environment.
- Working across People and Finance:
Building strong relationships and ensuring payroll and employee information flows smoothly across the business.
- Making things better: Identifying opportunities to simplify processes, improve systems, strengthen data integrity and reduce manual administration.
- Contributing to our transformation: Playing an important role in the introduction of Workday GO and helping us rethink how we deliver payroll and People Operations in the future
You'll also have the opportunity to broaden your involvement in People Operations, particularly where payroll, employee lifecycle processes, systems and data come together. We're not expecting you to be an expert in every area of HR. What matters is that you're interested in the bigger picture and enjoy finding ways to make things work better.
Who will thrive here?
You'll bring strong payroll expertise and the confidence to take ownership of a critical business function.
We're particularly interested in people who:
- Have solid experience managing end-to-end Australian payroll and a strong understanding of compliance requirements.
- Have the technical knowledge and judgement to work through complex payroll issues.
- Enjoy leading, coaching and supporting others.
- Are comfortable working with systems, data and reporting, and naturally look for opportunities to improve how things work.
- Build strong relationships and communicate clearly with people across the business.
- Are organised, proactive and comfortable balancing deadlines with longer-term improvements.
- Are curious about technology and how it can make payroll and People processes simpler and more effective.
Experience in People Operations, HR systems or process improvement would be an advantage,
but it's not essential. Above all, we're looking for someone who is great at payroll, takes real ownership and is excited about the opportunity to grow their contribution beyond it.
What's in it for you?
This is an opportunity to take ownership of an important function while being part of a People team that is actively shaping the future of how we work.
You'll enjoy
- A trusted, visible role with direct access to the Chief People Officer.
- The opportunity to contribute to our Workday transformation and broader People initiatives.
- A supportive, collaborative team that values ideas, initiative and continuous improvement.
- Flexible working arrangements.
- Competitive remuneration, including access to our Employee Share Scheme.
- An extra week's leave for personal development through our da Vinci Development Program.
- A full day's birthday leave.
- Opportunities to connect, learn and grow through our team events, development programs and retreats.
If you're an experienced payroll professional looking for your next challenge, and the opportunity to have an impact beyond payroll, we'd love to hear from you. Diversity & Inclusion
