The Opportunity

Zenith Search is partnering with a well-established global organisation operating across the engineering, energy and resources sectors to recruit an experienced Payroll Lead for its Perth-based team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong payroll skilled who enjoys the challenge of managing complex payroll arrangements, ensuring compliance and driving continuous improvement.

Reporting to the HR Manager, you'll lead a small payroll function, overseeing five payroll cycles across Australia and New Zealand, including multiple Enterprise Agreements, varied employment conditions and a diverse workforce.

With payroll processing outsourced, your focus will be on payroll oversight, accuracy, compliance, stakeholder engagement and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities

- Oversee end-to-end payroll operations across Australia and New Zealand, ensuring accurate and timely payments.

- Manage five payroll cycles, covering permanent, fixed-term and casual employees.

- Interpret and apply five Enterprise Agreements, modern awards and relevant employment legislation.

- Lead, mentor and support a Senior Payroll Officer.

- Work closely with payroll providers to review payroll calculations, resolve discrepancies and ensure service delivery.

- Manage payroll reconciliations, PAYG, superannuation, payroll tax and reporting obligations.

- Maintain strong payroll controls, governance and audit compliance.

- Identify opportunities to improve payroll systems, processes and operational efficiencies.

About You





We're looking for an experienced payroll professional with strong technical knowledge, excellent attention to detail and the confidence to take ownership of a complex payroll environment.

You'll ideally bring:

- Proven experience in a Payroll Lead, Payroll Manager or Senior Payroll Officer position.

- Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation and compliance requirements.

- Demonstrated experience interpreting multiple Enterprise Agreements and modern awards.

- Experience managing complex payroll cycles, allowances, overtime and varied employment conditions.

- Experience working with outsourced payroll providers.

- Advanced Excel skills and strong payroll reconciliation capabilities.

- Excellent communication, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.

- Previous experience mentoring or leading payroll staff.

Experience within engineering, mining, construction, oil and gas or other industrial environments will be highly regarded.
