Intertek Caleb Brett is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Petroleum Chemist to join our laboratory operations team in Adelaide, South Australia.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced chemists looking to develop their technical expertise within the petroleum testing industry. Working closely with Senior Chemists, Laboratory Supervisors, and the Laboratory Manager, you will perform petroleum product testing, support quality initiatives, and contribute to delivering accurate and timely results to our clients.

Key Responsibilities

As a Petroleum Chemist, you will:

- Conduct testing of petroleum products including fuels, crude oils, and lubricants using recognised industry standards such as ASTM, IP, and API methods.

- Receive, log, prepare, and manage samples while maintaining traceability and compliance with laboratory procedures.

- Prepare reagents, standards, and quality control materials.

- Operate laboratory instrumentation including distillation units, flash point testers, viscometers, and related equipment.

- Accurately record and maintain testing data within laboratory systems and documentation.

- Assist with crude oil assay work and gain exposure to end-to-end assay processes.





- Participate in proficiency testing programs and quality assurance activities.

- Support instrument calibration, verification, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.

- Maintain a safe, clean, and organised laboratory environment.

- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and laboratory efficiency.

About You To be successful in this role, you will have:

- A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related discipline.

- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Good computer literacy and data management skills.

- The ability to work effectively within a team environment.

- A willingness to learn new laboratory techniques and develop technical competency.

- The flexibility to adapt to changing priorities while maintaining quality and turnaround times.
