Economics graduate with policy experience? Help shape influential thinking across financial, economic and societal issues.

- Shape policy submissions on major economic, financial & societal issues
- Work alongside leading experts, government & regulatory stakeholders
- Sydney CBD | Hybrid working | 12-month fixed-term contract with potential to become permanent | Circa $133,928 + Super

The opportunity If you studied economics and have since developed your career in public policy, economic policy, regulation or financial services, this is an opportunity to bring those two worlds together.

Our client is a highly regarded professional membership body whose community of experts contributes to debate on some of Australia’s most significant economic, financial and societal issues.

Working alongside senior professionals and subject-matter experts, you’ll help turn deep technical expertise into clear, credible and influential public policy submissions, reports and thought leadership.

You won’t need to be the technical expert in the room. Instead, your economics grounding and policy experience will allow you to understand the issues, ask the right questions, strengthen arguments and help specialists communicate their expertise effectively to government, regulators, industry and the broader community.

The portfolio is exceptionally varied, spanning areas such as insurance, superannuation, investment, health, risk, climate change, sustainability, data, AI, aged care and emerging technologies.

Your new role

Reporting to a senior executive responsible for public policy and professional standards, you’ll support a portfolio of specialist committees and working groups made up of senior industry professionals.

Rather than traditional committee administration, the position is about policy development, intellectual coordination and stakeholder engagement.

You will

- Support the development of policy submissions, reports and thought leadership
- Review complex material and strengthen its argument, structure, clarity and impact
- Translate economic, financial and technical concepts for broader audiences
- Work with senior experts to progress policy and professional initiatives
- Coordinate engagement with government departments, regulators and industry stakeholders
- Help specialist committees turn ideas and technical expertise into tangible outputs
- Build trusted relationships with senior professionals and internal stakeholders
- Work with communications colleagues to publish and promote key pieces of work
- Keep multiple policy projects and work programs progressing simultaneously

What you’ll need to succeed We’re particularly interested in people who started with economics academically and have subsequently developed strong policy careers.

You may have worked in Treasury, a government department, regulator, industry body, banking, insurance, superannuation, investment, economic consultancy or another policy-focused environment.

You’ll ideally bring

- A degree in Economics, or a strongly economics-focused related discipline
- Professional experience in public policy, economic policy, regulatory policy or financial services policy
- A strong understanding of economic principles and the confidence to engage with complex financial and policy issues
- Excellent written communication, particularly drafting,

editing and refining policy material
- The ability to absorb complex information and identify the key argument or implication
- Strong stakeholder skills and confidence working with senior subject-matter experts
- Intellectual curiosity and an interest in major economic and societal issues
- Solid organisation and the ability to manage several workstreams simultaneously
- Sound judgement, diplomacy and a collaborative approach

You do not need to be an actuary, nor do you need deep technical expertise across every subject area. This could particularly suit an economist who has moved into policy and now wants broader exposure beyond a single portfolio or department, while retaining the intellectual depth of policy work.

What you’ll get in return

This is a chance to step into a role offering unusual breadth. Rather than focusing on one narrow policy area, you’ll gain exposure to issues across financial services, government policy and wider economic and societal debate.

You’ll receive

- Circa $133,928 + Super
- Initial 12-month fixed-term contract , with potential to become permanent
- Hybrid working, with approximately 2–3 days per week in the Sydney CBD office
- Exposure to senior industry experts, government and regulators
- The opportunity to contribute to influential policy submissions and thought leadership
- Significant intellectual variety across economic, financial and emerging policy issues
- A collaborative, purpose-led environment where your economics and policy background will be genuinely valued

What you need to do now If you’re an economics graduate who has built a career in policy and are looking for a role offering greater variety, influence and exposure, we’d like to hear from you.

Please submit your CV for confidential consideration.
