Overview An established and highly regarded civil engineering main contractor is seeking a Preconstruction Project Manager / Bid Manager to join its large and experienced pre-construction team in the North East.

The business delivers a diverse range of civil engineering schemes, including highways, road improvements, major structures (road, rail and water), public realm and flood defence projects, with values reaching £65 million.

This is an excellent prospect for an experienced construction professional looking to move away from day-to-day site delivery and use their practical knowledge to help shape projects before construction begins.

Working alongside dedicated planners, estimators, designers and bid writers, you'll provide the overarching construction expertise, helping determine the most practical, innovative and cost-effective ways of delivering projects.

Previous pre-construction experience isn't essential. Strong hands-on civil engineering experience and an understanding of how projects are actually built are particularly important.

What You'll Be Doing

- Understanding clients' requirements and developing practical construction solutions that meet their needs.
- Providing input into construction methodology, design development, buildability and value engineering, identifying smarter ways of delivering projects.
- Helping coordinate Stage 1 and Stage 2 tender processes,



working alongside planners, estimators, designers, bid writers and commercial teams.
- Using the company's extensive library of previous projects, case studies and tender information to support PQQs, bid submissions and innovative client proposals.
- Identifying construction risks, opportunities, logistical challenges and potential programme improvements.
- Undertaking site visits, contributing to client meetings and tender presentations, and supporting the handover of successful bids to operational teams.

What We're Looking For

- Strong practical civil engineering experience and knowledge of construction methods.
- An ability to assess designs, challenge proposed approaches and identify practical, cost-effective alternatives.
- Good communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- A collaborative approach and confidence working with clients and internal teams.
- A full UK driving licence.

Experience of two-stage tendering, NEC contracts or planning software such as P6, Asta or MS Project would be advantageous but is not essential, with support and training available.
