? We're Hiring: Principal Python Software Engineer – Data Platform & DevOps (EL2 Level)

⏳ Contract: 7.5 months (possible extension)

? Security Clearance: Active AFP Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) clearance is mandatory.

We're looking for an experienced, hands-on Principal Python Software Engineer to join a high-impact government technology initiative focused on modernising a sophisticated data management and analytics platform.

This is an exciting prospect for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, building scalable distributed systems and working with modern cloud-native technologies.

What you'll be doing:

- Design and develop advanced Python applications, APIs, SDKs and reusable libraries.
- Build and optimise distributed data processing solutions.
- Work with Apache Cassandra and Apache Pulsar.
- Develop and manage containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Design REST APIs, OpenAPI specifications and Python client libraries.
- Implement secure authentication and asynchronous processing.
- Improve CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and DevOps practices.
- Enhance platform performance, reliability, scalability and observability.
- Work closely with technical teams to deliver secure, production-ready solutions.

Key Skills & Experience:

- Strong hands-on Python development and object-oriented programming experience.
- Practical experience with Apache Cassandra and Apache Pulsar.
- Strong Kubernetes and Docker expertise.




- Experience building distributed data platforms and event-driven applications.
- Advanced REST API, OpenAPI and SDK development.
- Experience with synchronous and asynchronous Python programming.
- Strong CI/CD, automation and DevOps engineering skills.
- Experience with FastAPI, Django or similar frameworks is highly desirable.

Who would be a excellent fit? We're looking for a technically strong Principal Engineer who enjoys hands-on development, takes ownership of technical solutions and has experience designing and delivering complex data platforms.

Experience in government, law enforcement, telecommunications, digital forensics or other secure environments will be an advantage.

⚠️ Important: An existing AFP NV1 security clearance is mandatory. Candidates must also meet AFP security, suitability and onboarding requirements.
