About Us

Since 1988, Forktorque has been known as one of Australia’s leaders in Materials Handling Engineering. As a family-owned business, we pride ourselves on our innovation and commitment to quality outcomes to meet the specific needs of our clients. Whilst we specialise in flameproofing plant and machinery, we also perform a range of expert modifications including design and manufacture of attachments and upgrades.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and capable Production and Operations Manager to join our team based in Dandenong. This is an important leadership role within our business, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our workshop, managing production activities and ensuring our people and resources are working efficiently and effectively.

Working closely with our General Manager and experienced technical team, you will take ownership of production planning, workflow management, employee performance and operational efficiency.

We are looking for someone who can bring structure, accountability and fresh ideas to our operations. You will be comfortable managing people, addressing performance issues and identifying opportunities to improve the way we work.

Whilst this is primarily a management role rather than a hands-on trade position, a sound understanding of manufacturing or workshop environments will be key.

Key responsibilities include:

- Overseeing daily factory operations to ensure production targets, deadlines and quality expectations are achieved.

- Planning, coordinating and monitoring production schedules, workflow and labour allocation.

- Leading and managing workshop employees, providing clear direction, supervision and accountability.

- Monitoring individual and team productivity, identifying performance issues and taking appropriate action.

- Working closely with our technical team to ensure production activities are completed efficiently and to the required standards.

- Identifying opportunities to improve production processes, reduce inefficiencies and minimise unnecessary costs.

- Monitoring job progress, labour utilisation and production timelines to support improved operational performance.

- Promoting a positive, productive and accountable workplace culture.

- Supporting employee development, training and continuous improvement initiatives.

- Working collaboratively with management to implement practical improvements across the business.

About You

We are looking for an experienced, confident and practical manager who understands what it takes to run an efficient and productive manufacturing operation.

You will be comfortable spending time on the factory floor, engaging with employees and taking responsibility for getting things done. Importantly, you will have the confidence and interpersonal skills to manage people effectively, including having difficult conversations when necessary.

You will bring:

- Demonstrated experience in production management, factory management or workshop supervision within a manufacturing or similar environment.

- Strong people management skills, including the ability to lead teams, manage performance and maintain accountability.

- Experience coordinating production schedules, labour resources and workflow to meet operational deadlines.

- A sound understanding of manufacturing processes, productivity and cost control.

- Strong organisational, planning and problem-solving skills.

- The confidence to make decisions, address issues and follow through on agreed actions.

- A practical, proactive approach with a focus on continuous improvement.

- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with employees and senior management.

A trade qualification or mechanical background would be advantageous but is not essential. Experience in industrial manufacturing or materials handling industries would also be beneficial.

Above all, we are looking for someone who can lead people, improve performance and make a genuine contribution to the ongoing success of our business.

Why Join Us?

If you are an experienced production or operations manager who enjoys leading people, improving processes and delivering results, we would welcome your application.
