About RedDoor

RedDoor Community Services is a registered NDIS provider and ACNC-registered charity based in Cloncurry and Mount Isa, Queensland. We operate two Supported Independent Living homes, youth programs and social enterprises, and deliver NDIS supports. We’re a charity run by non-clinical managers, with support workers delivering the day-to-day care. You’ll be the only nurse clinician in the organisation.

The role A mix of hands-on nursing, clinical governance, education and an active part of the team. You’ll deliver direct nursing care to our SIL participants as needed and oversee the clinical quality of what our support workers do, how they administer medication, managing health appointments and accurately recording it. You’ll work alongside program managers, the SIL leaders and the Directors, none of whom are clinicians.

You need to be comfortable with that, taking operational direction from them, explaining clinical matters in plain English, and confidently applying your clinical judgement and advocating for appropriate care, without relying on a traditional clinical hierarchy for guidance.

We’ll build the role around the right person. Full-time or part-time, school hours, a compressed week, a nine-day fortnight, tell us your preferences and we'll see if we can make it work!

Hands-on

- Health assessments and care plans for participants, keeping up-to-date electronic files
- Direct nursing care within your scope, which may include medication administration, subcutaneous injections, wound care
- Case manage participants’ medical and allied health appointments - track what’s due, book appointments, attend where it matters,

and make sure outcomes are implemented and recorded
- Day-to-day liaison with GPs, pharmacists, specialists and allied health professionals as needed
- Identify clinical concerns early, and help manage ongoing chronic diseases or health concerns, whilst referring participants to other clinicians as needed
- Be hands-on and involved in everyday supports – spend time with our participants in home, at appointments and in the community to really understand their needs, while providing practical, respectful guidance and education along the way

Governance

- Audit medication records and check administration against our policy and the NDIS Practice Standards
- Review participant files for compliance - health plans, consents and health-related records
- Deliver medication training to support workers, observe and assess their competency, and hold clinical responsibility for training sign-off, including high intensity supports as our registration expands
- Check-in with support workers to confirm appointments are handled well and the right information is being received and implemented
- Take the lead in developing, reviewing and maintaining the clinical aspects of our medication and health policies and procedures
- Share findings with the Directors and take an active role in addressing gaps and improving practices, rather than simply identifying issues
