Child & Adolescent Psychologist – Independent Practitioner

Established Child & Family Referrals | Flexible Caseload | Onboard Now for 2027

Perth – Joondalup and/or West Leederville Are you a psychologist who genuinely loves working with children and young people: helping a worried child make sense of their anxiety, supporting a young person through peer relationships, working alongside parents when behaviour has become difficult, or helping a family understand what might be sitting underneath a child's struggles?

Excelsis Psychology is looking for experienced registered psychologists who work therapeutically with children, adolescents and their parents to join our clinics as independent practitioners under a Practice Management Agreement.

We have a strong and growing referral stream of children and families seeking psychological support, with a particular need for psychologists who are confident and experienced in working with younger children, including primary-school-aged children and their parents.

We are looking to establish relationships with practitioners who would like to develop or expand a child and adolescent-focused caseload in 2027.

There is no expectation that you arrive with a full diary or immediately take on a large caseload.

You can start gradually.

Take on a small number of children or families. Get comfortable with our systems. Add further clients when you have capacity. Build your caseload around your existing work, family and professional commitments.

We are currently onboarding practitioners in preparation for commencing in 2027.

The opportunity

Our child and family referrals are varied, and depending on your experience, interests and scope of practice may include:

- anxiety, worries and fears
- emotional regulation and big feelings
- behavioural and emotional difficulties
- ADHD and neurodivergence-informed psychological support
- parent consultation and parent-focused intervention
- school-related difficulties and school avoidance
- self-esteem and confidence
- social skills and friendship difficulties
- adjustment to separation, divorce and family change
- grief and loss
- developmental and life transitions
- stress and coping
- adolescent emotional and mental health concerns
- child-parent and family-focused work

We are particularly interested in hearing from psychologists who understand that effective work with younger children often involves working meaningfully with their parents and caregivers as well as with the child. You do not need to work across every presentation or age group.

You determine the clients and presentations you accept within your professional interests, competencies and scope of practice.

Why Excelsis?

One of the hardest parts of independent practice is building the infrastructure around the clinical work. At Excelsis, much of that infrastructure is already established.

Practitioners have access to

- an established and ongoing child, adolescent and family referral stream
- professional consulting rooms in Joondalup and West Leederville
- reception and administrative support
- booking and invoicing support
- established practice management systems
- professional client communications and administrative processes
- the flexibility to establish a caseload that works for you

This may suit someone wanting one regular consulting day, a small number of clients alongside another role, or a more substantial private caseload.

Importantly: this is independent practice

This is not an employee position. You will operate your own independent practice under a Practice Management Agreement, retaining responsibility for your own clinical work, professional obligations and business.

We provide the Clinic infrastructure and practice-management support so you can focus more of your time on the clinical work you actually want to do.

Who we'd love to hear from

We are particularly interested in hearing from experienced psychologists who already have a strong foundation in therapeutic work with children and young people. This opportunity may suit you if you genuinely enjoy child and family work and feel confident engaging younger children therapeutically while also working collaboratively with their parents and caregivers.

You will need

- General Registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA
- demonstrated experience providing psychological intervention to children and/or adolescents
- strong experience working therapeutically with younger children and their parents or caregivers
- confidence adapting psychological intervention to a child's developmental level
- an ability to engage and communicate effectively with parents and caregivers
- strong clinical formulation and intervention skills
- appropriate qualified indemnity and business insurance
- a current Working with Children Check
- an ABN and appropriate business structure
- strong professional and ethical standards
- the ability to manage your work independently

Experience or additional training in areas such as child development, parenting interventions, neurodivergence, anxiety, emotional regulation, behavioural difficulties, trauma-informed practice or family work is welcomed. Clinical endorsement is welcomed but is not essential where the practitioner has appropriate training, competence and experience for the work they undertake.

Looking ahead to 2027?

Talk to us now. We would much rather complete onboarding early, give you time to become familiar with the Clinic and systems, and allow you to build your caseload gradually in 2027 than expect you to arrive on day one with a packed diary.

If you already enjoy working with children and families and would like to build an independent child-focused practice without having to establish every piece of the infrastructure yourself: we would love to hear from you.

Send us your CV at [email protected] and a brief introduction telling us: 1. Your experience working therapeutically with children and adolescents
