Fractional Senior Finance Manager/Controller (path to permanent) | PE-backed business

Our client is a growing private equity-backed business in Victoria. The group runs from branches across Melbourne and regional Victoria, turns over around $20m. A new CEO and COO are joining this year as the business moves from founder-led to a professionally run group with a clear growth plan, including acquisitions.

The prospect The business has grown without an internal finance function. Bookkeeping, AP, AR and payroll are handled in-house, and tax, BAS and statutory accounts are with external accountants. The business now needs a hands-on finance lead to own month-end and the numbers it runs on.

This starts as a fractional engagement, with a permanent role to be shaped once the new CEO is in place.

Key responsibilities

- Build and run a monthly close process, including accruals and month-end
- Reconcile the balance sheet
- Take over monthly P&L; and KPI reporting and turn it into a repeatable process
- Act as the main point of contact for the external accountants
- Improve how the field service system flows into Xero so revenue and costs land in the right accounts
- Report monthly against budget, work with branches and leadership to explain variances,



and support future budgeting

About you

- CA or CPA qualified
- Financial Controller or Finance Manager experience in a small to mid-sized business, ideally multi-site, field services, trades or similar
- Hands-on and comfortable building month-end processes with a small team
- Strong Xero experience preferred. Experience with field service or job management systems is a plus
- Commercial and practical, able to explain numbers clearly to founders, branch managers and the board
- Private equity-backed experience highly regarded
- Available from early December and able to commit 40 to 60 hours a month, with more time in the first month for setup

- Day or hourly rate negotiable or potential for a fixed term
