About Us The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone’s experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.

You can find out more about our Ministers, leadership and entities here: Department of Government Services.

About the Branch/Group

Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) is Victoria's consumer regulator. Our vision is a fair and competitive marketplace in Victoria. We:

- provide information to business, consumers, landlords and tenants about their rights and responsibilities
- register and license organisations and occupations
- ensure compliance with consumer laws, and
- review and advise government about Victoria's consumer protection framework.

The outcomes we are working to achieve for the Victorian community are:
- businesses that comply with consumer laws,
- Victorians who exercise their consumer rights,
- a fair and safe rental market for Victorians.

About the Role

Senior Inspectors conduct a range of compliance monitoring activities and inspections as authorised under the Australian Consumer Law and Fair-Trading Act, and other legislation administered by CAV.

These inspections will typically include leading compliance checks issued under the State-wide Inspection Program as well as other activities identified by regional intelligence.

Requiring a degree of judgement, discretion and experience, Senior Inspectors undertake more complex inspections of traders as they arise, including where there is a history of previous compliance breaches, or following a complaint of specific breaches.

Senior Inspectors also carry out residential tenancy investigations including rental assessments and non-urgent repairs as required.

Senior Inspectors also perform front line dispute resolution, provide business and community education and lead or coordinate CAV campaign initiatives, as well as mentor CAV staff and provide leadership to workforce planning and implementation to ensure strategic priorities are achieved.

The Senior Inspector role in the Central Area of Community Operations is based at Mildura and will outreach to other locations across regional Victoria and into northwest metropolitan Melbourne as required.

This can include obtaining comprehensive written statements and affidavits for use in legal proceedings as directed by CAV, as well as issuing infringement notices
