Turn fraud insights into meaningful member protection
Use your fraud analytics expertise to help prevent scams, reduce member harm and strengthen detection capability across digital banking, payments, cards and onboarding.
This is a senior specialist opportunity within Financial Crime where your analysis will directly shape fraud controls and inform important decisions. You'll investigate confirmed incidents, uncover missed detection opportunities and turn complex data into practical improvements that protect members without creating unnecessary disruption to genuine activity.
Based in Barangaroo and reporting to the Head of Financial Crime, you'll work closely with Fraud Operations, Product, Digital, Risk, Compliance, technology teams and external vendors.
Why this role matters
Fraud and scam behaviours continue to evolve. Your work will help Teachers Mutual Bank Limited strengthen how it prevents, detects and responds to these threats.
You'll support the Scam Prevention Framework program while helping establish sustainable fraud detection rules, reporting and analytical controls for the future. This is an opportunity to combine hands-on analytics with senior-level influence in a purpose-led, member-owned bank.
In this role, you will
- Review confirmed fraud and scam incidents, identifying root causes, control gaps and missed intervention opportunities
- Develop, test and refine fraud detection rules across cards, payments, digital banking and onboarding channels
- Monitor emerging fraud behaviours, scam trends, losses, false positives and detection performance
- Translate analytical findings into practical controls and prioritised recommendations
- Work with Fraud Operations to balance effective detection with operational capacity and member experience
- Produce clear reporting for senior leaders on fraud trends, control effectiveness, losses and remediation progress
What you'll bring
Essential
- Hands-on fraud and scam analytics experience within banking or financial services
- Experience analysing fraud incidents, losses, near misses and control gaps
- Knowledge of fraud detection across cards, payments, digital banking or onboarding
- Experience developing, testing or refining detection rules and analytical controls
- The ability to interpret large datasets and translate findings into practical action
- Confidence communicating technical insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders
- The ability to independently manage priorities and identify areas requiring attention
Relevant tertiary qualifications and technical capability using SQL, data visualisation tools, Microsoft applications or similar analytical platforms will support your success in this role.
Nice to have
- Experience within an Australian bank or mutual banking environment
- Broader AML/CTF, sanctions or financial crime analytics experience
- Experience supporting regulatory programs or fraud control transformation
- Exposure to financial crime data platforms and external technology vendors
If your background includes AML/CTF analytics, we'd still encourage you to apply if you can demonstrate direct, hands-on experience in fraud or scam analytics.
