Goomburra

A practical career with a regional lifestyle

Build your career in Australian manufacturing without giving up the benefits of regional living.

Thompson Longhorn is seeking a practical, organised and technology-confident person to join our team at our rural manufacturing facility in Goomburra, near Warwick.

Located on a farm-based property in the Southern Downs, this role offers an alternative to city traffic, congestion, large industrial estates and repetitive corporate warehouse environments.

You will enjoy

- permanent, full-time employment;

- regular RDO arrangements;

- an earlier finish on Friday;

- a stable and predictable working week;

- a rural workplace surrounded by the Goomburra landscape;

- varied work across stores, purchasing, suppliers, freight and despatch;

- a close connection to the workshop and the products being manufactured;

- the ability to work locally rather than travelling away for extended periods; and
- the opportunity to build a long-term career with an established regional manufacturer.

This is not solely a warehouse position, and it is not solely an office-based purchasing role.

It is a varied position at the centre of our manufacturing operation, connecting suppliers, inventory systems, workshop requirements, customer orders and freight movements.

About Thompson Longhorn

Thompson Longhorn is an established Australian manufacturer of livestock-handling equipment.

From our Goomburra facility, we design and manufacture practical equipment used throughout the agricultural industry to improve workplace safety, animal welfare, labour efficiency and livestock-processing performance.

We continue to invest in our people, systems, technology and manufacturing capability.

Accurate purchasing, stock control and logistics are critical to ensuring our production team has the right materials, in the right place, at the right time.

This position provides the opportunity to contribute to progressive manufacturing while enjoying the benefits of working in a genuine rural environment.

The opportunity

We are open to applicants from different backgrounds and experience levels.

You may already be an experienced:

- stores or inventory officer;

- purchasing officer;

- logistics or despatch coordinator;

- warehouse employee or team leader;

- production administrator;

- manufacturing support officer; or
- agricultural or industrial supply employee.

Alternatively, you may be a developing applicant with strong organisational skills, good computer literacy and the attitude required to grow into the broader responsibilities of the position.

For an experienced applicant, the role provides the opportunity to take ownership of the function and improve how purchasing, stores and logistics operate.

For a developing applicant, we are prepared to provide practical training and progressively expand responsibilities as capability is demonstrated.

What you will be responsible for

Stores and stock control

You will assist with or take responsibility for:

- investigating stock discrepancies;

- supporting scheduled and periodic stocktakes;

- recording and maintaining item weights, dimensions and other stock information;

- ensuring materials are stored correctly and protected from damage;

- supporting the workshop with timely access to required materials and components.

Purchasing and supplier coordination

You will

- raise, issue and maintain purchase orders;

- purchase materials, components and consumables required for production;

- ensure freight contractors and drivers comply with site safety requirements; and
- communicate freight or delivery concerns before they affect the customer.

Systems and production support

Accurate systems are a significant part of this role.

You will be expected to:

- maintain accurate purchasing, inventory and production records;

- attend relevant business and production meetings; and
- support continuous-improvement initiatives across the business.

You do need to be comfortable using computers, learning production and inventory software, entering information accurately and following agreed processes consistently.

Who we are looking for The successful applicant will be someone who:

- supplier-management or purchasing experience;

- stocktake and inventory-reconciliation experience;

- experience investigating stock discrepancies;

- an understanding of workplace safety requirements; and

A current forklift licence is essential due to the hands-on requirements of the position.

The role also involves

- regular manual handling;

- receiving and moving materials;

- packaging and strapping goods;

- loading and unloading freight; and
- regular movement between the stores, workshop and administration areas.

Previous experience is valuable, but reliability, attention to detail, computer confidence and the ability to learn will also be important in our selection decision.

What success looks like

Success in this role will be visible across the business:

- physical stock and system records will align;

- outstanding purchase orders will be actively followed up;

- production shortages will be identified early;

- suppliers will understand what is required and when;

- materials will be available when the workshop needs them;

- freight and despatch documentation will be accurate;

- goods will be received, stored, packed and loaded safely;

- customer orders will leave complete and correctly documented;

- the stores area will remain clean, organised and controlled;

- system information will reflect what is physically happening;

- preventable stock and communication issues will be reduced; and
- practical improvements will be implemented and maintained.
