About the Opportunity

Based in Penrith, we are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Junior Payroll Officer to join our Payroll Services Team. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, this position will provide payroll support and assist with payroll processing, while developing the skills and knowledge required to build a career in payroll.

Guidance, training and development will be provided to support the successful candidate in learning our payroll processes, systems and legislative requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

- Maintaining positive working relationships with employees and managers while assisting with payroll enquiries.

- Establishing and maintaining accurate employee data within the payroll system.

- Assisting with the timely processing of payroll transactions, including onboarding current starters, variations and terminations.

- Ensuring payroll records are maintained in accordance with company processes and legislative requirements.

- Assisting with workers compensation payments and adjustments, as provided by the Injury Management team.

- Supporting the generation and processing of authorised off-cycle and ad-hoc payments where required.

- Assisting with the monthly and fortnightly payroll for over one thousand employees.

- Supporting payroll reconciliations, payment summaries and superable elements.

- Developing an understanding of Enterprise Agreements, Industrial Instruments, the Fair Work Act and employment contracts.





- Liaising with Human Resources, managers and other internal stakeholders to assist with resolving payroll-related matters.

- Providing support for payroll audits, reviews and other compliance activities as required.

- Maintaining confidentiality and ensuring the appropriate handling of sensitive employee and payroll information.

About Your Experience and Skills

To be considered for this opportunity you should have the following:

- Some payroll or accounting experience and a genuine interest in building a career in payroll.

- Good Microsoft Office skills, including intermediate to advanced Excel skills, with a willingness to develop these further.

- An understanding of, or willingness to learn, Enterprise Agreements, Industrial Instruments and relevant payroll legislation.

- Experience with the PeopleSoft program will be highly regarded but is not essential.

- The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

- Good time management skills, with the ability to organise and prioritise tasks.

- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.

- A demonstrated commitment to confidentiality and the appropriate handling of sensitive employee and payroll information.

- A willingness to learn, ask questions and take on feedback to develop payroll knowledge and skills.

- The ability to recognise when guidance is needed and escalate questions or more complex payroll matters to a more experienced team member when appropriate.
