Japanese Mountain Retreat is a couples-only mineral springs and day spa retreat in the Dandenong Ranges, about 45 minutes from Melbourne. We cook for a small number of guests each day, from breakfast to our four-course Japanese omakase dinners, so every plate gets real care and attention.

We’re looking for a kitchen hand who loves food and wants to learn. You’ll be part of a small, close-knit team and work directly with our head chef. It’s a outstanding way into the industry for someone keen to build real kitchen skills.

What you’ll do

- Basic food prep: washing, peeling, chopping, portioning and setting the chef up for service
- Keep the kitchen clean and organised: dishes, benches, floors and storage
- Help receive and put away deliveries
- Follow food safety and hygiene standards
- Help out wherever the team needs you

About you

- You love food and want to learn more about cooking
- You work hard, show up reliably and get stuck in
- You take pride in a clean, well-run kitchen
- You take direction well and pick things up quickly
- You’re available [days/shifts, e.g. weekends and some evenings]
- [You have your own transport, since we’re up in the hills]
- Experience is a bonus. We’ll teach you the rest.

What we offer

- Hands-on learning with our head chef
- A small, supportive team
- A beautiful place to work among Japanese gardens in the Dandenong Ranges
- Casual hours, paid at award rates

We look forward to welcoming you to the Japanese Mountain Retreat team!
