About the roleAt Essential Carers, we are looking for an experienced and compassionate support worker to provide high-quality support to a participant with high physical support needs, including a spinal injury.
This is a hands-on role for someone confident and experienced in personal care and high-care support, while maintaining the participant's dignity, comfort, safety and independence.
The role is casual/ongoing and based in the western suburbs of Melbourne.What you'll doProvide personal care assistance, including showering, washing, grooming, dressing and general hygiene supportProvide high-care support to a participant with a spinal injuryAssist with bowel care, including supporting the participant with their established bowel management routine, where appropriately trained and authorisedAssist with continence and catheter-related care as required and within your training and scope of practiceSupport repositioning and personal care routines, ensuring the participant is comfortable and safeFollow appropriate infection control and aseptic/clean practices where required, maintain excellent hand hygiene and follow infection prevention and control proceduresFollow food hygiene and food safety practices when preparing or assisting with mealsSupport meal preparation and keep the participant's preferred food and drinks accessibleHelp maintain a clean and hygienic environment, including keeping floors and commonly used areas clean and safeAssist with dishes, laundry, linen changes and general household tasks as requiredProvide social support and communication, engaging positively with the participant through conversation and companionshipEncourage participation and maintain a respectful, person-centred approachAssist with basic household routines,



including caring for two dogs in the home, such as feeding and walking them when requiredFollow all relevant care plans, workplace procedures, NDIS requirements and health and safety practicesComplete accurate shift notes and communicate relevant information during handoverAbout youPrevious experience working as a Disability Support Worker in a high-care environment (at least 1 year)Demonstrated experience supporting people with spinal injuries or significant physical disabilities; previous experience with spinal injuries or complex physical support needs is highly desirableExperience with personal care and complex support needsExperience with bowel care is highly desirableUnderstanding of infection control and hand hygieneUnderstanding of food hygiene and safe food handlingAbility to maintain a clean, safe and hygienic environmentGood communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to engage respectfully and comfortably with the participantAbility to work calmly and professionally in a home environmentReliability, patience and a robust commitment to participant dignity and choiceComfortable working in a home with two dogsMeet and greetWe will arrange a meet and greet with the participant before you start.
