About Us

Women’s Legal Service Tasmania (WLST) is more than a statewide community legal service; we are a lifeline for women across Tasmania, offering comprehensive legal advice, together with an integrated practice of in-house financial counselling and social work services. Our legal services span a dedicated telephone advice line, face-to-face appointments, community legal education, outreach, law reform submissions, and referrals to crucial support services. As an integrated practice, our clients are also supported by in-house financial counselling and social work services. With offices in Hobart, Launceston, and Burnie, WLST is funded by the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department, recognising that in addition to the general legal problems that can affect everyone, there are some areas of law in which a woman’s experience is different – as a victim of a crime, as a primary carer of children, or through discrimination or lack of equal opportunity in employment or business.

Our focus is on assisting vulnerable women who have encountered family violence, sexual abuse, or discrimination. We create a supportive work environment to maintain our staff's resilience, attuned to the diverse needs of women from various backgrounds.

About the Role

The role provides day-to-day leadership to administration and intake staff, supporting effective workflows, workload allocation, staff induction and development, and the delivery of accessible, respectful and client-centred services. The Team Leader will also participate in intake as required and assist with identifying and responding to emerging service pressures and opportunities to improve processes and the client experience.

The Team Leader oversees the day-to-day operation and maintenance of WLST’s offices, vehicles, equipment and other physical assets, ensuring workplaces are safe, functional, accessible, secure and fit for purpose. This includes coordinating maintenance, contractors and service providers, supporting workplace health and safety and emergency preparedness, assisting with maintaining relevant records and compliance documentation, and monitoring facilities-related expenditure.

Regular intrastate travel will be required to visit and support WLST’s three office locations.

What You'll Be Doing

- Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance and support to members of the administration team, including assistance with administrative processes, intake procedures, systems and day-to-day problem solving.

- Coordinate the day-to-day allocation and distribution of administration and intake work to ensure workloads are managed effectively and service needs are met, supporting a positive, respectful and cooperative team culture.

- Assist with monitoring intake demand, workflows and emerging service pressures, and identify opportunities to improve intake processes and the client experience.

- Participate in the client intake function as required to support the team and respond to service demand, in accordance with organisational procedures.

- Coordinate the day-to-day operation and maintenance of WLST's three office locations, ensuring facilities are safe, functional, well-maintained and fit for purpose.

- Assist with maintaining and updating WHS policies, procedures and documentation, and support staff awareness and training on safety protocols.

- Coordinate incident reporting and assist with investigation and follow-up actions in collaboration with the Operations Manager.

- Develop and maintain effective relationships with contractors, service providers, landlords and suppliers to support high-quality and cost-effective service delivery.

What We're Looking For

- Demonstrated experience in administration, team coordination, facilities or a related operational role, with the ability to organise and coordinate day-to-day work effectively.

- Relevant qualification in business administration, business management, leadership and management, or a related discipline (Certificate IV level or above), or an equivalent combination of relevant qualifications, training and experience.

- Demonstrated ability to provide day-to-day guidance and support to team members, allocate work, assist with induction and training, and contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.

- Well-developed organisational, communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands and work effectively with staff, contractors, landlords, suppliers and other stakeholders.

- Demonstrated ability to coordinate and oversee office facilities and assets across multiple locations, including building maintenance, repairs, security, vehicle management,
