At UTS, we're changing the game. We're on a journey to be the leading university of technology and we're moving the world forward with our breakthroughs. We want bright minds and constantly curious people to help us make it happen. As a young university, our goal is to connect, collaborate and make an impact with purpose and passion.

About the Role

We are seeking to appoint two Discovery Postdoctoral Research Fellows based at UTS TechLab to contribute to the Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Project, &Powering; the future: next generation power converters for electric vehicles&, an international collaboration between UTS, the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge.

Working under the supervision of Associate Professor Yam Siwakoti, you will undertake advanced research in power electronics, focusing on high-power-density converter design, system modelling, control development and experimental validation. You will contribute to innovative research outcomes, high-quality publications and the supervision of research students.

The position offers access to state-of-the-art facilities at UTS TechLab, opportunities for international research visits and collaboration with leading academic and industry partners.

About You (Selection Criteria)

As the Discovery Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality research outcomes that advance power-electronics technologies and contribute to the development of next-generation electric-vehicle power systems.

To be successful in applying for this role, you should have the following:

Essential Criteria

- A PhD in Power Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline, with demonstrated research excellence, a strong publication record, and evidence of high-quality doctoral research undertaken in a rigorous research environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in advanced power electronics, including high-power-density converter design, wide-bandgap semiconductor technologies (GaN/SiC), advanced converter topologies and control strategies.
- Strong experience in high-fidelity modelling, simulation, optimisation,

hardware prototyping and experimental validation of advanced power-electronic converters.
- Proven knowledge and experience in high-frequency magnetics design, electromagnetic interference (EMI) mitigation, thermal management and embedded system interfaces or communication protocols.
- A strong research publication record, particularly in leading IEEE journals, with demonstrated ability to translate research into experimentally validated technologies and industry-relevant outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating within multidisciplinary and international research teams, including mentoring research students, alongside strong communication, project management and problem-solving skills.

Highly Desirable Criteria

- Significant industrial experience in power electronics R&D;, particularly end-to-end design, development, prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, and validation of high-efficiency, high-power-density power converters, with demonstrated ability to translate laboratory prototypes into reliable, industry-ready technologies.
- Practical experience with industry-standard engineering practices, including PCB design, component selection, hardware integration, thermal and EMI/EMC compliance testing, reliability assessment, and design optimisation for manufacturability and scalability.

Remuneration

Base Salary Range: $95,565 to $116,393 pa (Level A) plus 17% superannuation (pension)

Both positions are full-time and will be offered on a 24-month fixed-term basis.

UTS staff also benefit from a wide range of Employee Benefits include flexible work practices, generous parental leave and salary packaging opportunities.
