Veterinary Nurse – Ophthalmology

Perth Animal Eye Hospital | Southern Suburbs, Perth

Be part of something special. Learn, grow and thrive with a team that has your back!

Looking for your next challenge in veterinary nursing? Excited by the idea of learning something new, developing specialist skills and being part of a genuinely supportive team?

At Perth Animal Eye Hospital, we're not just passionate about providing exceptional care to our patients, we're passionate about creating a workplace where our people feel supported, valued and enjoy coming to work.

As Perth's only dedicated veterinary ophthalmology referral hospital, we're growing and looking for an enthusiastic, experienced Veterinary Nurse to join our team.

Our hospital includes Ophthalmology Specialists, Registrars, Residents and experienced Veterinary Nurses, supported by state-of-the-art diagnostic and surgical equipment.

What makes us special, though, is our people. We're a close-knit, collaborative team who share knowledge, support each other, celebrate successes and genuinely enjoy coming to work. We believe great patient care comes from a team that works well together, respects each other's contributions and has fun along the way.

Why Ophthalmology?

You don't need to be an ophthalmology expert to join us!

We're equally interested in experienced GP Veterinary Nurses with strong anaesthetic and surgical skills who are excited to learn something new. If you love surgery, enjoy a fast-paced clinical environment and want to challenge yourself, ophthalmology is a fantastic opportunity to develop a highly specialised skill set.

Our experienced team has a strong track record of training and developing nurses in ophthalmology. You'll receive the guidance, training and support you need to build your confidence and specialist skills.

You'll learn from experienced clinicians while working alongside colleagues who genuinely want to see you succeed.

About the role

We believe great nurses deserve opportunities to grow, develop and use their skills to their full potential.

Working closely with our Head Nurse and Specialist clinicians,

you'll be an important part of a collaborative nursing team where everyone's contribution matters.

You'll have the opportunity to:

- Work alongside Ophthalmology Specialists, Registrars and Residents.
- Develop highly specialised ophthalmology nursing skills.
- Assist with a diverse range of interesting surgical and medical cases.
- Use advanced diagnostic and surgical equipment.
- Continue developing your anaesthesia and surgical nursing skills.
- Mentor, support and share knowledge with fellow nurses.
- Help train and develop team members alongside the Head Nurse.
- Contribute ideas and help make our team even better.

Whether you're bringing existing specialty experience or looking to transition from GP nursing, we'll provide the training, encouragement and support to help you succeed.

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone who is passionate about nursing, loves surgery and brings a positive, team-focused attitude.

Ideally, you'll have:

- Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent.
- 4+ years' experience in GP veterinary nursing OR 2+ years' experience in specialty surgery.
- Strong anaesthesia and surgical nursing experience.
- A genuine interest in learning and developing ophthalmology skills.
- A confident, capable and enthusiastic approach to nursing.
- Excellent communication and a willingness to share knowledge.
- A positive, can-do attitude and a genuine appreciation for teamwork.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who enjoys being part of a team, supports their colleagues and understands that we achieve our best results when we work together.

What's in it for you?

We know great nurses have plenty of choices, so we want to offer more than just an interesting job.

We want to offer a workplace where you can build a rewarding career, enjoy life outside work and feel genuinely supported along the way.

Work-life balance

- 4-day working week.
- Weekday shifts only – no regular weekend work.
- On-call approximately once every 6 weeks, for emergencies only with on call allowance just for being on call!

Career development

- Above-Award salary, based on the experience you bring.
- Real career pathways – develop your clinical skills, explore specialist interests or grow into leadership roles.
- Specialised training and support to develop your ophthalmology knowledge.
- Access to dedicated vet nurse programs, face-to-face workshops and online training courses
- Professional membership with the VNCA paid for by us.

Your wellbeing matters

- 24/7 Employee Assistance Program support through Sonder.
- Mental Health First Aid network.
- Access to wellbeing initiatives and support.

And most importantly... you'll have a great team behind you!

We genuinely believe that a great workplace starts with great people.

We're proud of the team we've built and the culture we continue to create. We help each other out, share the workload, celebrate each other's achievements and make time to have a laugh.

We understand that veterinary nursing can be challenging, so having colleagues you can rely on makes all the difference. You'll be joining a team where questions are encouraged, knowledge is shared, support is always close by and nobody is expected to do it all alone.

We want you to feel comfortable asking for help, confident to share your ideas and excited to come to work.

We work hard, look after each other and genuinely enjoy being part of this team.

Ready to take the next step in your nursing career?

If you're an experienced Veterinary Nurse who loves surgery and anaesthesia and would love the prospect to develop specialist ophthalmology skills, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.
