Sense Of Self
Melbourne
Sense Of Self is a contemporary bathhouse and spa, launched in **** and featured in Vogue, The Design Files and the AFR. We have venues in Collingwood and Surry Hills, and we're growing.
We're looking for the person who understands the numbers behind them, and wants to know why they look the way they do.
This is a hands‐on, standalone finance role based at our Collingwood HQ. You'll own the financial health of the group. That means the monthly close, multi‐entity accounting and consolidated reporting, payroll and payroll tax across Victoria and NSW, cash flow, banking and lender reporting. Our booking‐to‐accounting integration is nearly finished, so a lot of the manual processing is going away. The time that frees up is the point. We want you spending it working out what drives venue performance, including utilisation, pricing, labour efficiency and profitability, and working with our venue managers to improve it.
What you'll do
Run the close and group reporting across three entities, including intercompany and consolidation
Manage payroll, superannuation and multi‐state payroll tax, from registrations through to returns
Own cash flow, budgets, banking and lender reporting, including covenant monitoring
Work with our external partner, on our rolling three‐way forecast, supplying operational inputs and helping with scenario analysis
Oversee our finance systems and integrations, protect data integrity, and keep finding ways to automate
Investigate what's behind the numbers and turn it into practical recommendations that venue teams can act on
What you bring
CA or CPA, with 5+ years of relevant experience, preferably in a multi‐site, service‐based or high‐growth business, ideally in a standalone,
pioneering capacity
Demonstrated proficiency in Xero, with strong technical accounting skills in multi‐entity environments (intercompany transactions, reconciliations and consolidated reporting); exposure to a larger ERP is a bonus
Working knowledge of payroll and payroll tax across more than one state
Experience with bank and lender reporting
Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills, with experience in rolling forecasts and scenario and sensitivity analysis
Genuine curiosity about how a business operates: comfortable getting into the detail, challenging the numbers, and turning financial and operational data into practical recommendations that venue teams can act on
Experience overseeing system integrations and automation, with a keen eye for data integrity and a continuous improvement mindset
The honest bit
This role has no direct reports. You'll work closely with our Director, our Operations Manager, the Venue Managers and our external partner who handle the more complex specialist technical and compliance matters. We'd rather meet someone with solid fundamentals and genuine commercial curiosity than someone who ticks every technical box.
Why Sense Of Self
We live by our values: setting a new standard for wellness, fostering belonging, balance and agency, and never selling BS. You'll join a small HQ team in a founder‐led business at an interesting point, with real scope to shape how we understand and improve our venues as we grow.
