The Riverina Conservatorium of Music (RCM) is one of regional Australia's vibrant centres for music education and performance. Established in 1981 and based in Wagga Wagga, we have built a strong reputation for nurturing musical talent, delivering outstanding music education and bringing exceptional musical experiences to our community.

Today, the RCM brings together more than 45 professional music educators, performers and artists, working with close to 1,200 students across the Riverina. Our programs span instrumental and vocal tuition, music theory, composition and ensemble learning, providing opportunities for musicians of all ages and abilities to develop their skills and pursue their musical ambitions.

Beyond the teaching studio, the RCM is an important part of the region's cultural life. Our purpose-built facility provides an inspiring setting for learning, collaboration and performance, while our extensive concert and performance program connects our students, qualified musicians and the wider community through live music.

We are passionate about the transformative power of music and the opportunities it creates. Our culture is built on professional excellence, creativity, collaboration and a shared commitment to making music accessible and meaningful to everyone.

We are now looking for an accomplished pianist and inspiring educator to join our team – someone who wants to share their musical expertise, contribute to an ambitious artistic environment and play an active role in shaping the musical lives of students and audiences across the Riverina.

About the Role:

We are seeking an accomplished pianist and engaging music educator for a permanent part-time appointment of 25 hours per week. The position combines piano teaching with work as the RCM's resident Associate Artist. The balance of teaching and Associate Artist responsibilities will be negotiated with the successful applicant, taking account of their strengths, interests and the needs of the Conservatorium.

The teaching component will involve working with piano students across a range of ages and abilities, in individual, group and ensemble settings. It may also include work within RCM school music programs and supporting instrumental students, vocal students and ensembles as an accompanist.

The Associate Artist component will provide scope to contribute actively to the RCM's artistic and performance life. This may include collaborative piano and accompaniment, solo and ensemble performance, participation in concerts and projects, and working alongside RCM staff and students to support high-quality music making. The precise mix and priorities will be developed with the successful candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Deliver engaging, high-quality individual piano tuition to students across a range of ages, abilities and levels.
• Contribute to group and ensemble-based piano learning and, where required, RCM school music programs.
• Support instrumental students, vocal students and ensembles through collaborative piano and accompaniment.
• Undertake agreed Resident Associate Artist activities, which may include solo and ensemble performance, team-oriented projects and participation in RCM concerts and artistic initiatives.
• Work collaboratively with RCM teachers, professional music educators and administration staff, sharing knowledge and contributing to the Conservatorium's musical community.
• Contribute to a positive, inclusive and supportive learning and performance environment for students and colleagues.

Skills and Experience:

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

• Suitable tertiary qualifications in music and/or music education.
• Demonstrated experience and capability teaching piano across a range of levels, individually and in groups.
• Strong piano performance skills and the ability to work effectively as a collaborative pianist and/or accompanist.
• An understanding of,

or willingness to work within, school music program environments.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage positively with students, families and colleagues.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a professional teaching and performance team.
• A current NSW Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain one before commencement.

Desirable but not essential:

• Established professional performance experience, with the capacity to contribute as a soloist and/or ensemble musician.
• Experience accompanying instrumentalists, vocalists and ensembles.
• Experience working in a conservatorium, school or other music education setting.

What We Offer:

• Permanent part-time salaried appointment of 25 hours per week, during RCM teaching terms.
• A negotiated mix of piano teaching and Resident Associate Artist responsibilities.
• An opportunity to combine qualified music education with an active performance and collaborative music-making practice.
• Work with a team of experienced music educators and contribute to a vibrant regional musical community.
• Entitlements and leave in accordance with the applicable employment arrangements and the National Employment Standards.

About You:

We are looking for someone who is -

• An accomplished and versatile pianist who is passionate about sharing music.
• An inspiring, student-centered teacher who can adapt to different ages, abilities and learning needs.
• A generous and collaborative musician who enjoys working with colleagues and students.
• Professional, reliable, organised and able to manage a varied teaching and performance workload.
• Enthusiastic about contributing to the artistic life and wider community role of the RCM.
