Tired of doing the same job every day? Come and work with us!

At Border Marine Centre, no two days are the same!

We're a friendly, busy and expanding local business looking for a qualified automotive mechanic, experienced marine mechanic or enthusiastic marine mechanic apprentice to join our growing team.

Whether you're already working in the marine industry or you're an automotive mechanic who also has a passion for fishing and boating (and all things outdoors), we'd love to hear from you.

What makes this role different?

Forget repetitive servicing and doing the same thing day in, day out. Our workshop offers a huge variety of hands-on work, including:

- New boat fit ups- steering rigging, customisation of console, electrics and accessories.

- Boat trailers – servicing, maintenance, repairs and modifications.

- Caravans and horse floats – maintenance, mechanical repairs, refurbishments and general repairs.

- Welding, fabrication and fibreglass repairs – opportunities to use existing skills or learn something new.

- Marine accessories and equipment – installation, troubleshooting and repairs.

You'll have the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills across multiple industries.

What we're looking for

Ideally, you'll be a qualified automotive or marine mechanic, or someone with strong engine and mechanical skills or knowledge who enjoys problem-solving, variety and hands-on work.

We're also happy to consider someone looking to commence or continue a marine mechanic apprenticeship, who is enthusiastic, mechanically minded and keen to learn.

We're looking for someone who:

- Takes pride in their workmanship, with excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality.

- Has sound mechanical aptitude, with experience or knowledge of engines, mechanical systems, servicing and repairs.

- Has electrical knowledge or experience with wiring, fault-finding and electrical systems (highly desirable).

- Driver's licence with boat licence desirable

- Has strong diagnostic, troubleshooting and practical problem-solving skills.

- Can confidently use workshop tools and equipment and follow safe work practices- ask when unsure.

- Can work independently, show initiative and contribute positively to a team.

- Is organised, reliable and able to manage a variety of tasks.

- Enjoys learning new skills and tackling different mechanical challenges.

- Has a genuine interest in boats, boating or the marine industry.

- Has a positive attitude and willingness to have a go.

Experience in welding, fabrication, fibreglassing or trailer repairs would be a bonus, but isn't essential. We're happy to teach the right person!

What we offer

- Industry Above-award wages, with competitive remuneration negotiated based on qualifications, skills and experience.

- 38-hour working week, with optional overtime.

- Flexible finishing times – early Friday finishes or another weekday negotiable.

- A friendly, supportive and down-to-earth team.

- A busy, established and expanding business.

- Genuine variety – no two days are the same.

- Opportunities for additional training and skill development.

- Career progression opportunities as our business continues to grow.

- Immediate start available.
