About the role
We’re looking for an experienced, resilient Support Worker to join a small, consistent team supporting a participant with Level 3 autism in a Specialist Disability Accommodation home in Beerwah. You’ll help the participant build daily living skills, stay active in the community and work towards greater independence.
The participant is sociable, creative and enjoys being busy, with interests in cooking, art, sport and animals. You’ll support the participant to enjoy these at home and in the community, and to build friendships beyond paid supports.
What you’ll do
- Provide one-to-one support at home and in the community, including transport to activities and appointments
- Support meal preparation, household routines and personal care
- Follow and help maintain visual schedules and routines, and give the participant advance notice of plans and changes
- Use positive behaviour support strategies, including calm, validating communication, consistently with the rest of the team
- Follow the participant’s Positive Behaviour Support Plan, including the authorised restrictive practices and medication protocols in place
- Write accurate shift notes and incident reports on time
- Take part in handovers, team meetings and debriefs
About you
You’re steady, warm and resilient. You can stay calm and recover well after challenging moments, and you can set and hold clear, kind boundaries without taking things personally.
The participant does best with workers who are always on time, listen well and respond consistently.
Essential
- Experience supporting people with autism, intellectual disability and behaviours of concern
- Resilience, and the ability to draw and maintain clear, consistent skilled boundaries, including on social media
- Willingness to follow restrictive practices strictly as authorised, and to complete the training
- Excellent punctuality and a commitment to a long-term role
- Calm, patient and non-judgemental under pressure
- NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willing to obtain one), NDIS Worker Orientation Module, First Aid and CPR
- Current driver’s licence and a reliable, insured vehicle
Desirable
- Certificate III or IV in Individual Support or Disability
- Knowledge of positive behaviour support or trauma-informed practice
- Experience with medication administration and authorised restrictive practices
- Experience supporting people with mental health needs
- Living on the Sunshine Coast or nearby
What we offer
- A consistent, well-supported team and a stable roster
- Paid induction with buddy shifts and training in the participant’s support plan
- Ongoing training, regular supervision and debriefs after challenging shifts
- Work that makes a real difference to someone’s independence and quality of life
