Salary: Chef: $80,000 – $82,000 per annum plus superannuation

Cook: $79,500 per annum plus superannuation

About us

Ora D’oro is an Italian cuisine restaurant in Croydon, Victoria, known for fresh, flavourful food, warm hospitality and a welcoming dining experience. As our business continues to grow, we are looking for a passionate and skilled Chef and Cook to join our kitchen team on a full time, permanent basis.

Position 1 – Chef

Key responsibilities

·Planning and developing menus in consultation with management, and estimating food and labour costs

·Ordering food and kitchen supplies, and managing stock levels to control waste and costs

·Monitoring the quality of dishes at every stage of preparation and presentation

·Discussing food preparation and kitchen matters with management, kitchen staff and front-of-house staff

·Demonstrating cooking techniques and advising kitchen staff on correct cooking procedures

·Preparing, cooking and presenting high-quality dishes to consistent standards

·Explaining and enforcing food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements

·Assisting with the selection, training and supervision of kitchen staff

·Freezing, storing and preserving food correctly to maintain quality and minimise waste

Skills and experience

·Certificate IV in Kitchen Management, Diploma of Hospitality Management, or an equivalent qualification

·At least 1 year of relevant experience as a Chef

·Strong leadership and the ability to guide and support a kitchen team

·Sound knowledge of food costing,



menu planning and stock control

·Thorough understanding of food safety and hygiene standards

Position 2 – Cook

Key responsibilities

·Inspecting ingredients and produce to ensure freshness and quality

·Setting and monitoring the temperatures of ovens, grills, fryers and other cooking equipment

·Preparing and cooking a wide range of dishes according to recipes and quality standards

·Seasoning food during cooking to achieve consistent flavour

·Portioning and plating meals, and finishing them with sauces, gravies and garnishes

·Storing food correctly in temperature-controlled facilities

·Preparing meals to meet customers’ special dietary requirements, including allergies and intolerances

·Assisting with menu planning and estimating food quantities required

·Helping to train and support junior kitchen staff and apprentices

Skills and experience

·Certificate III or Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, or an equivalent qualification

·At least 1 year of relevant experience as a Cook

·Good knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices

·Strong attention to detail in food preparation, presentation and portion control

Both positions require

·The ability to work efficiently in a busy, fast-paced kitchen

·Availability to work a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays

·Good communication and teamwork skills

·A positive attitude and a commitment to high standards
