Are you passionate about delivering therapeutic training and development that empowers foster carers and strengthens outcomes for children and young people?

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Training Officer for a fixed-term opportunity until 30 June 2027.

Based at Seaton and reporting to the Assessment Manager - Foster Care, you will co-design and deliver training that builds foster carers’ knowledge, confidence, and practical skills to provide safe, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care.

You will work with the Foster Care team and Therapeutic Lead to identify learning needs, strengthen carer capability, and embed the STEP Framework in training and resources.

Key Responsibilities

- Plan, coordinate and deliver induction, mandatory and ongoing training for foster carers.
- Apply a therapeutic relational approach and work closely with the Therapeutic Lead to embed the STEP Framework across training, resources and development activities, providing practical guidance to carers and staff on therapeutic and trauma-informed care.
- Contribute to training innovation and continuous improvement, including the development and review of evidence-informed learning packages and resources.
- Collaborate with carer support staff, foster carers and relevant stakeholders to identify individual and program-wide learning needs, tailor and embed training to carer experience, placement contexts and the needs of children and young people.

About You

You are a collaborative qualified with strong communication and organisational skills, experience facilitating training and a sound understanding of foster care, trauma-informed practice, and adult learning principles.

Essential

- A Social Work degree or equivalent qualification.
- At least three years’ experience in foster care, childcare services or a social services environment.




- Demonstrated child protection experience, including knowledge of therapeutic interventions for children and young people with high and complex needs.
- Knowledge of foster carer competencies, therapeutic care and trauma-informed practice.
- Experience facilitating training and applying adult learning principles.
- A valid DHS Working with Children Check and Australian Driver’s Licence.

Desirable

- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, or equivalent expertise gained through experience, training or professional accreditation.

Special Conditions

- Some work outside standard business hours may be required.
- Willingness to work across sites as required.
- Compliance with Safe Environments for Children and Young People requirements.
