Your new company

Hays is partnering with an established Australian organisation operating within the advanced engineering, manufacturing and technology sector. With complex products, highly technical supply chains and an international supplier network, this organisation is seeking an experienced Category Manager to strengthen its strategic sourcing capability.

Your new role

This is not traditional corporate procurement. You will take ownership of a portfolio of make-to-order engineered components and materials, developing sourcing strategies that balance cost, quality, technical requirements, lead times and security of supply.

Working closely with engineering, production and supply chain teams, you will:

- Develop and execute category and strategic sourcing strategies

- Source technically complex, engineered components from Australian and international suppliers

- Assess supplier capability, manufacturing capacity, cost and supply risk

- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications and Bills of Materials

- Lead RFQ, supplier selection and commercial negotiation activities

- Negotiate pricing, lead times and strategic supplier agreements

- Monitor supplier performance across quality, delivery, cost and lead times





- Build strategic supplier relationships and identify opportunities for cost reduction and supply chain improvement

- Support production priorities in a quick-moving, highly technical environment

The role has particular exposure to manufacturing processes including metal fabrication and machining.

What you'll need to succeed

You will be an experienced procurement, sourcing or category management professional who understands the complexities of buying within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
