Osborne Richardson are delighted to be partnering with our transport-focused State Government colleagues on the Gold Coast for a cracking Engineer (Civil) chance, right in our home patch at Nerang.
Sitting within the South Coast Region Asset Management team (Technical Services), you'll be the engineer behind heavy vehicle access on the state-controlled road network: assessing permit applications that come through the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) portal and putting together well-reasoned recommendations for the Senior Engineer (Civil) to approve. It's a technical, detail-driven role with real influence on how freight moves safely across the region.
What you'll be doing
- Assessing allocated heavy vehicle permit applications through the NHVR portal: checking vehicle details, proposed routes and supporting information, and chasing clarification where needed
- Undertaking engineering route assessments that consider vehicle dimensions and mass, road geometry, intersection turning movements, clearances, infrastructure constraints and traffic impacts
- Preparing detailed assessment notes and recommending access conditions or reasons for refusal for Senior Engineer review, then communicating approved outcomes through the portal
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to clarify route constraints and coordinate specialist technical advice
- Applying the relevant legislation, engineering standards, policies and quality procedures, and keeping assessment records accurate and complete
- Managing your assessments within timeframes, escalating complex or higher-risk matters, and helping improve team processes
What we're looking for
1. A four-year, Washington Accord accredited Bachelor of Engineering (Civil), or an equivalent assessed and accepted by Engineers Australia
2. A current Class C driver's licence and your own suitable PPE
3. The ability to apply civil engineering principles to route assessments: vehicle dimensions and mass, road geometry, turning movements, clearances and infrastructure constraints
4. Knowledge of heavy vehicle legislation, standards and guidelines, or the ability to pick it up quickly
5. Sound analytical judgement to identify risks and constraints and develop reasoned recommendations
6. Clear written communication, including detailed assessment notes and professional correspondence
7. Strong organisation to prioritise a steady flow of applications and meet assessment timeframes
What's on offer: Up to $74.00 per hour + super on a flexible full-time contract from 30 November 2026 to 30 June 2027, with possible extension, based at Nerang on the Gold Coast. No RPEQ required.
