Your expertise could make a difference far beyond the balance sheet.
Volunteer Appointed Board Director | Finance & Commercial
Bring your financial insights to a Board shaping the future of music therapy in Australia.
The Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA) is seeking a finance or commercially experienced professional to join our national Board as a volunteer Appointed Director.
For the first time, we're welcoming Appointed Directors from outside our membership, creating an opportunity for new perspectives and specialist expertise to help guide our future.
As Australia's peak professional body for music therapy, AMTA supports the profession, maintains professional standards and advocates for greater recognition of and access to music therapy services.
We're an organisation with an important purpose and ambitious plans for the future. Strong financial stewardship and commercial thinking will be essential to achieving them.
That's where your expertise can make a real difference.
The prospect
As an Appointed Director, you'll help guide AMTA's strategic direction, financial sustainability and responsible governance.
Working collaboratively with fellow Directors, you'll contribute financial and commercial insight to strategic planning, budgets, financial oversight, risk management and decisions that support the association's long-term future.
This is an opportunity to think beyond the numbers and help ensure AMTA has the foundations to deliver meaningful outcomes for the profession and the communities it serves.
What you'll bring
We'd welcome expressions of interest from professionals with experience in areas such as:
- accounting, financial management or commercial leadership
- financial reporting, budgeting and strategic financial planning
- financial risk, organisational sustainability or business development
- interpreting financial information and contributing to informed decision-making
- collaborative leadership, strategic thinking and sound professional judgement.
Experience with a not-for-profit organisation,
professional association or the allied health sector would be advantageous, but not essential.
You don't need previous Board experience to make a valuable contribution.
You may be an emerging leader looking to take your first step into governance, or an experienced professional seeking an opportunity to contribute your expertise in a different setting.
What matters is your capability, judgement and commitment to making a difference.
Why join the AMTA Board?
You'll have the opportunity to:
- contribute to the sustainability and growth of a national professional association
- influence strategic decisions that support the future of music therapy
- broaden your leadership experience beyond your day-to-day professional responsibilities
- develop your governance knowledge and experience
- work alongside committed leaders in a collaborative, purpose-driven environment.
AMTA supports professional development in governance, making this an attractive opportunity for those looking to build their Board experience.
The commitment
This is a volunteer appointment for an initial two-year term, with the possibility of renewal.
The role includes regular online Board meetings, chairing a Board sub-committee, annual strategic planning and an in-person Board meeting, together with preparation and other governance responsibilities.
AMTA provides governance training support and covers approved travel and accommodation expenses for relevant in-person activities.
Applicants must be over 18, eligible to act as a Director, willing to provide signed consent and not be an AMTA employee. This vacancy is open to people who are not AMTA members.
Ready to put your expertise towards something meaningful?
Whether you're an established financial leader or an emerging professional ready to explore Board service, we'd welcome a conversation.
