Help shape the future of music therapy in Australia.
Volunteer Appointed Board Director | Marketing, Communications & Brand An opportunity to make your mark on a national profession.
The Australian Music Therapy Association (AMTA) is entering an exciting recent chapter, and we're inviting an experienced marketing, communications or brand professional to help shape what comes next.
For the first time, AMTA is recruiting Appointed Directors from outside its membership, bringing fresh perspectives and specialist expertise to our national Board.
As Australia's peak professional body for music therapy, AMTA supports professional standards, advocates for its members and works to improve awareness of and access to music therapy across Australia.
We know music therapy has an important contribution to make. We want more people to understand its value.
That's where you come in.
The opportunity
We're looking for someone who understands the power of communication, reputation, and strategic positioning to help strengthen AMTA's voice and influence.
As an Appointed Director, you'll contribute to the strategic leadership and governance of AMTA while bringing valuable marketing and communications insight to Board discussions.
Your perspective will help us consider how we engage with members, government, stakeholders and the broader community, strengthen our brand and position the profession for the future.
This is a strategic governance role, not an operational marketing position.
What you'll bring
We're interested in hearing from people who offer:
- experience in marketing, brand strategy, communications or stakeholder engagement
- an ability to see the bigger picture and translate complex ideas into compelling messages
- strategic thinking, sound judgement and a collaborative leadership style
- an understanding of reputation, organisational growth or advocacy
- an interest in contributing to a purpose-driven organisation.
Experience in allied health, professional associations or the not-for-profit sector would be valuable, but isn't essential.
Previous Board experience is welcome, but we're equally interested in candidates with strong leadership capability who are ready to develop their governance expertise.
You don't need to be a music therapist. We value diversity in the perspectives you'll bring.
Why join the AMTA Board?
This is an opportunity to:
- help influence the future of an important allied health profession
- contribute to a national organisation at a pivotal stage in its development
- apply your professional expertise in a meaningful new context
- build valuable governance and strategic leadership experience
- collaborate with committed professionals who are passionate about the future of music therapy.
The commitment
This is a volunteer appointment for an initial two-year term, with the possibility of renewal.
The role includes regular online Board meetings, chairing a Board sub-committee, annual strategic planning and an in-person Board meeting, together with preparation and other governance responsibilities.
AMTA provides governance training support and covers approved travel and accommodation expenses for relevant in-person activities.
Applicants must be over 18, eligible to act as a Director, willing to provide signed consent and not be an AMTA employee. This vacancy is open to people who are not AMTA members.
Could this be your next meaningful leadership opportunity?
If you're looking to use your expertise to influence something bigger than your day-to-day role, we'd love to hear from you.
