Role Description The Fiber Technician role is a full-time, on-site position based in Schofields, NSW.

The Fiber

Technician will install, haul, and manage fiber optic cables, including preparing, terminating, and splicing fibers according to project specifications. Daily tasks include testing and troubleshooting fiber links, identifying and rectifying faults, and documenting work performed. The role involves working with cable management systems, following safety procedures, reading technical diagrams, and coordinating with supervisors and team members to meet project timelines.

The Fiber

Technician may also support site preparation,



equipment setup, and maintenance of tools and test instruments.

Qualifications

- Ability to work with cables and cabling systems, including handling, routing, and organizing cable infrastructure.
- Knowledge of fibre and optics, including basic principles of fiber optic transmission and components.
- Troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving issues in fiber networks and cable installations.
- Experience or training in fiber optic splicing, testing, and fault finding is highly beneficial.
- Understanding of telecommunications or networking environments, including familiarity with industry safety standards.
- Capability to read and interpret technical drawings, work plans, and installation documentation.
- Physical ability to perform fieldwork, including lifting, climbing, and working in varied outdoor conditions.
- Robust attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Relevant trade qualification, certification in fiber optics, or equivalent on-the-job experience is an advantage.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to different work sites as required.
