Barwon Heads
Head of Entertainment | 4 Iconic Venues
This is the job you’d make up if you could.
This isn’t a summer gig. It’s a 12-month role leading to ongoing if successful, with one explicit mission: activate our venues. Make our peak periods even bigger, then create the reasons for people to come out when they normally wouldn’t. The wet Tuesday in July. The quiet Sunday night. The weekend after the school holidays.
Anyone can fill a venue on a sunny Saturday in January. We want the person who can fill it in June.
Your stages
At The Heads, Barwon Heads
Right on the water at the mouth of the Barwon River. Go big with whole-venue activations, or take over the Mulloway Room. It’s a private space for up to 80 guests, and what happens in there is up to you: intimate gigs, long-table dinners, comedy, tastings, guest speakers. Bring the idea, and we’ll back it.
St Leonards Hotel
A classic bayside pub that’s just joined our group and is ready for its next chapter. Live music, trivia, DJs, sport, comedy, and anything and everything in between. Help shape what this pub becomes from day one.
The Dunes, Ocean Grove
A beachfront venue overlooking the surf, with a deck that’s made for sessions. Your job is to activate it: own the deck, own the quieter periods, and turn the slow nights into nights people plan their week around.
Sutton Grange Winery
Right now it’s open on Sundays from 12 to 5. The rest of the week is a blank canvas. Winemaker dinners, long lunches among the vines, music in the vineyard, harvest celebrations, pop-ups, and ideas we haven’t thought of yet. The possibilities are literally endless,
and you get to fill it however you see fit.
Four venues, four completely different crowds, and one person shaping what happens on every stage.
What you’ll create
- Venue activations that turn quiet periods into reasons to come out
- Live music, DJs, comedy, trivia, book launches, guest speakers and anything else you can think of
- Food and wine experiences with our head chefs: producer dinners, winemaker nights, chef collaborations and pop-ups
- Seasonal events built around each town, the school holidays and the Bellarine summer
- Fresh ideas that fill the quiet nights and make the big nights legendary
How you’ll work
- Build a 12-month calendar for each venue, then run it as a rolling 90-day plan, locked in 6 weeks out
- Every event must make money. You’ll be judged on profit, not just atmosphere.
- Before anything is booked, complete our event template: every cost, expected covers and spend, and forecast profit
- After every event, review what it actually delivered against the forecast, then back the winners and cut what didn’t pay
- Book talent, negotiate fees and manage performer contracts
- Own your entertainment budget and work with each venue on promotion
- Keep everything compliant: licences, permits,
WWCCs, insurance and music licensing
Your first 90 days
- Month 1: Get to know every venue: book some activations, find out what works now and what it earns. Fix midweek at The Dunes.
- Month 2: Test 3 to 4 new formats and build the launch calendar for St Leonards Hotel.
- Month 3: Back the winners, cut what didn’t work, and lock in your 6-month calendar across the group.
You’ll love this if you
- Have programmed entertainment or activations in hospitality, ideally across more than one venue
- Have booked talent and run an events calendar with confidence
- Get as excited about a great night as you do about the numbers behind it
- Have a coastal or regional Victorian network (a big plus)
- Have a driver’s licence and your own car, and are available nights and weekends as events require
What’s in it for you
- $85,000 to $95,000 + super + bonus
- A performance bonus tied directly to the results your program delivers
- A 12-month contract with a genuine path to an ongoing role. Deliver the results and the role is yours to keep.
- Four iconic venues and a blank calendar to make your own
- Real creative freedom
- A growing, locally owned and operated hospitality group that wants to be the very best
- Living and working on the Bellarine, where the office view is the water
To apply
Attach your resume and cover letter.
In your cover letter, tell us about the best event you’ve ever run: what was it, and what did it do for the venue? We want to hear the story and see the numbers.
