Australian Communications and Media Authority

Melbourne

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is an independent Commonwealth statutory authority responsible for the regulation of broadcasting, radiocommunications, telecommunications and some online content.

This work underpins our vision for a connected, informed and entertained Australia.

Who we are

This role is situated within the Investigations and Enforcement Section within the Unsolicited Communications and Scams Branch within the Consumer Division of the ACMA.

The Consumer Division manages policy, compliance and enforcement matters relating to telecommunications issues and consumer safeguards, telephone numbering, unsolicited communications, including enforcing Australia’s spam, telemarketing laws and scam laws.

The mission of the Unsolicited Communications and Scams Branch is to protect Australians from scams and intrusive marketing. Our delivery is underpinned by building an innovative, outcomes-focused and engaged Branch. We place equal value on what we achieve and how we work together. The Branch is responsible for unsolicited communications policy, including regulatory reform, contract management and cost recovery for the Do Not Call Register; scam reduction policy and projects, including maintaining the SMS Sender ID Registry to help protect SMS from impersonation by scammers; high volume complaints triage and intelligence for unsolicited communications and scams laws; and investigations and enforcement of unsolicited communications and scams laws.

The Investigations and Enforcement Section is responsible for investigations and enforcement activities for the compliance with the SMS Sender ID Register rules in the Telecommunications Act 1997 and subordinate instruments, two anti-fraud instruments to protect Australians from porting and SIM-swamp fraud, the Spam Act 2003, Do Not Call Register Act 2006, and multiple related instruments. The section is also responsible for contributing to scam disruption activities and surge capacity as required.

The team you will manage has a solid track record of achieving outcomes, and we are looking for someone to take it to the next level in terms of performance and outcomes.

All EL2 officers are expected to meet the Integrated Leadership Profile (ILS) for the EL2 classification and the APS Code of Conduct, and support and build the ACMA Values and Culture (we are purposeful, curious and questioning and collaborative).

- Contribute to the leadership of the Branch, Division and Agency, via leadership forums and corporate contributions.
