Job summary The Newcastle Hospitals and Community Services Staff Bank provide temporary staff to various wards and departments across the Trust.

We are seeking experienced Obstetric Sonographers to join our Staff Bank supporting service delivery within our organisation.

Main duties of the job As a midwife/radiographer sonographer you will hold a Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma in Obstetric Ultrasound (or equivalent).

You will be part of the sonography team and will work autonomously, undertaking scans in the Antenatal Ultrasound department and the Maternity Assessment Unit. You will be expected to perform first, second and third trimester scans and independently report on the findings.

Exceptional communication skills and multidisciplinary team working is an essential aspect of this role to ensure the delivery of safe, harm free patient care.

Knowledge of safeguarding and escalation of concerns appropriately is essential to this role.

All pay progression is conditional upon a positive outcome at annual appraisal.

All successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS certificate. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first month's pay. You will be required to sign a DBS payment form which will be issued to you as part of your recruitment process.





All new employees will be required to attend the Trust induction programme and complete appropriate mandatory training requirements.

Job responsibilities

Provide a range of high-quality obstetric ultrasound scans including, first, second and third trimester screening scans.

Assess workload and provide comprehensive scan reports using electronic patient records.

Take responsibility for storing required ultrasound images and data.

Effectively communicate scan findings, including distressing and unexpected news.

Arrange follow up care for patients, adhering to current clinical guidelines.

Assist with the training of multidisciplinary staff within the department.

Assist with audit and research in the department.

Essential (Midwife Sonographer)

First degree or equivalent and related study

Registered Midwife

Excellent communication skills

Post Grad Certificate in obstetric ultrasound

Recognised teaching/assessing qualification or equivalent experience

Evidence of continuous professional and personal development

Basic IT Skills

Desirable (Midwife Sonographer)

Experience in all obstetric ultrasound scanning including transvaginal, Doppler and Nuchal translucency

Post Grad Diploma in medical ultrasound

Accreditation for Nuchal translucency certification with continuous annual assessment where necessary
