We are an established business of around 30 team members. While we are a stable company with a product that launched a few years ago, we still retain our quick-moving, high-autonomy startup culture.
Our product is unique and highly complex: we have taken what would typically be three or four different product lines and aggregated them into a single, cohesive powerhouse platform.
We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer to evolve our platform into a highly mature, structured ecosystem.

Role Description
Up until now, product and engineering have been dual-led by our technical co-founder. We have reached a scale where we need a dedicated engineering leader to ensure deliberate execution.
You will report directly to the Co-Founder and lead a small team of highly capable, driven engineers. You will help build and scale our platform (a next-generation e-commerce platform combining a marketplace with workflow tools supporting modern workplaces to manage catering / pantry / meals).
What you will be doing:
- Architecture & Delivery: Lead the architectural design and implementation of core platform features, backend services, and workflow tools used by both customers and suppliers.
- System Stability & Scale: Oversee and maintain critical backend infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, and platform security.
- Engineering Quality: Conduct thorough code reviews, establish testing and deployment standards, and foster a culture of technical excellence.
- Leadership & Mentorship: Guide and support a high-performing engineering team, providing technical direction and supporting their professional growth.
- Product Collaboration: Work closely with product and founders to translate business vision into scalable technical roadmaps.

Key requirements:
- Robust proficiency with TypeScript, Node.js, and modern JavaScript frameworks.
- Solid understanding of relational databases and SQL (PostgreSQL or MySQL), including schema design and query optimisation.
- Previous experience acting as a Senior or Lead Engineer in a high-growth environment.
Nice to have:
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS), CI/CD pipelines, and containerization (Docker).
- Familiarity with two-sided marketplace dynamics or complex workflow management software.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $140,000.00 – $170,000.00 per year
