About Picster
Picster is a travel photography marketplace. Travellers book a local photographer in the place they’re visiting, and we handle everything around it — the booking, the customer, the editing and the delivery. We’re live in 77 destinations worldwide and Sydney is one of the destinations where we're growing our photographer network.
Our customers are mostly couples, families and people marking something: an anniversary, a proposal, a first trip somewhere together. They want good photographs of themselves in a place they love, without the faff of organising a shoot abroad.
The work
This is contract work, shoot by shoot. Each booking is its own contract — you see the job, you accept it, you shoot it. No rota, no minimum commitment, so it sits alongside your existing client work rather than competing with it.
Sessions run from 30 minutes up to 90 minutes. Most are short and straightforward. Some are longer and more bespoke — proposals, bigger groups, several locations, specific requests — and those give you more room to get creative.
The focus is natural, timeless photography that captures both the people and the unmistakable beauty of Sydney. Think couples walking along the waterfront, families enjoying the harbour, relaxed portraits with the Opera House in the background and spontaneous moments framed by the Harbour Bridge.
Some bookings also include a pre-shoot proposal consultation or a short video reel, so there's variety beyond the usual portrait session.
Where you’ll shoot
- Sydney Opera House — iconic architecture, harbour views and natural portraits
- Circular Quay — relaxed waterfront photography with sweeping harbour backdrops
- The Rocks — historic streets, charming architecture and character-filled portraits
- Sydney Harbour Bridge viewpoints — dramatic bridge compositions and panoramic harbour scenery
- Macquarie Street — the starting point for sessions, near the UGG Australian Collection store
- Bespoke requests that take you further afield
Most sessions begin outside UGG Australian Collection at Shop 1/1A Macquarie Street, before heading towards the Opera House and continuing along the waterfront to Circular Quay.
Longer sessions can extend towards The Rocks and Harbour Bridge viewpoints, giving you more opportunities for wide-ranging compositions and a natural, story-driven gallery.
What it pays
€100 per hour for standard photography bookings. A 30-minute session pays €50. A one-hour session pays €100, and a 90-minute session pays €150.
There are also specialist bookings. A one-hour proposal session, including a pre-shoot consultation, pays €100. The Ultimate 90-minute package, which includes 50 photographs and a 30-second video reel, is priced at €175.
There's also genuine upside in offering customers more from their session. If they want additional photographs, a longer experience or something more bespoke, there are opportunities for additional sales.
Customers can purchase extra photographs after their shoot, and photographers who create a comfortable, enjoyable experience are well placed to encourage those purchases.
Who we’re looking for
- A working photographer based in or around Sydney who knows the harbour, its landmarks and the best light
- Comfortable with people — couples, families,
children and the occasional nervous proposer
- Your own professional camera kit
- Confident photographing people naturally, from candid moments to more polished, editorial-style portraits
- Comfortable shooting in busy tourist locations, using creative framing and background blur to keep photographs clean
- Able to capture a good variety of images, from close-up details to wide architectural and harbour compositions
- Reliable. Turning up on time, every time, matters more here than anything else
- Enough English to look after an international customer
You don't need a studio or a wedding portfolio. You need to make people look good outdoors, quickly, and be easy to deal with.
The best photographers for this work are the ones who can make a busy waterfront feel personal, capture genuine emotion and turn a short session into photographs customers will treasure.
How it works
You shoot. We do the rest — the customer, the booking, the payment, the editing and the delivery. Edited photographs reach the customer within 48 hours, so you're not losing your evenings to post-production.
Depending on the booking, customers receive 20, 50 or 75 edited photographs, with the option to purchase more afterwards. The Ultimate package also includes a 30-second video reel.
You'll work as a self-employed contractor and invoice us for completed shoots. You keep your own clients and work for whoever else you like.
