About The Role
Valiant Finance is seeking a Senior Ruby on Rails Backend Engineer to help shape and scale its platform. In this role, you will design and build dependable backend services, develop APIs for applications and partners, and integrate with a variety of external systems. You will contribute to technical decisions that support high availability, security and performance as the business continues to grow. You will work closely with Product, Design and engineering colleagues to refine requirements, solve complex technical challenges and deliver useful features. The engineering team is remote-friendly and collaborates from the Surry Hills office two to three times per week. This opportunity suits an engineer who enjoys building quality products,



communicates clearly and takes ownership of maintainable solutions. Qualifications Candidates should bring at least five years of commercial experience with Ruby on Rails and a record of delivering production backend systems. Experience with the following is required:
• Designing and maintaining public and private REST APIs, including integrations with multiple external services.
• Database design and performance optimisation, particularly with PostgreSQL.
• Cloud infrastructure using AWS, GCP or Heroku.
• Automated testing with frameworks such as RSpec and background job processing with tools such as Sidekiq.
• Development planning tools such as Linear or Jira.
• Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain technical problems and solutions. Experience with security practices such as OWASP or STRIDE, data synchronisation across distributed systems, and high-volume services with strict availability requirements is advantageous. Familiarity with lending or corporate finance, GDPR or SOC 2, or a Computer Science degree is also valued. Responsibilities
• Design, build and maintain RESTful APIs for frontend applications, enterprise clients and partners.
• Integrate the platform with external services,



including systems such as Salesforce, Auth0 and Cloudflare.
• Develop architecture and backend services that meet demanding security, performance and availability needs.
• Maintain and improve cloud infrastructure to support business growth and reliable service delivery.
• Write clear, well-structured, tested and documented code that is easy for the team to maintain.
• Collaborate across Product, Design and Engineering to clarify requirements and deliver features effectively.
• Identify technical risks and opportunities, and communicate practical recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
