Provisional Psychologist – 5+1 Internship (Full-Time, 2027) Are you a Provisional psychologist looking for a supportive, welcoming and genuinely enjoyable place to complete your 5+1 internship and develop your skills as a psychologist? Laburnum Psychology is looking for a warm, personable and enthusiastic provisional psychologist to join our lovely team in 2027. This is a unique full-time position combining clinical work with a dedicated intake role, offering the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills while working toward general registration. We are a well-established and highly regarded private psychology practice with a wonderful team of psychologists who genuinely enjoy working together. We place enormous value on creating a supportive, collaborative and positive workplace where our psychologists feel valued, well supported and able to develop into the best clinicians they can be. We know how important the early years of a psychologist's career are, and we are passionate about providing the right environment for early career psychologists to build their skills, confidence and professional identity.

About the role
This is a full-time 5+1 internship position combining clinical work with a dedicated intake role. This position is designed to give you a broad range of experience while you work toward general registration. The role will involve two days of clinical appointments and three days of intake. As your experience, skills and confidence develop, this may gradually transition toward three days of clinical appointments each week. Your internship Importantly, the role will be structured to provide opportunities to meet the direct client contact requirements of your 5+1 internship, alongside the broader supervised practice and professional development opportunities needed to support your progression toward general registration. We will work with you to develop your internship plan and position description for Ahpra approval. You will be supported to meet the Psychology Board’s requirements, including:
· 1,500 hours of supervised practice, with at least 500 hours of client contact
· 80 hours of supervision with Board-approved primary and secondary supervisors
· Professional Development opportunities
· Developing all eight professional competencies for general registration Your clinical work: On your clinical days, you will see your own clients for assessment and therapy, with a caseload that builds gradually as your confidence grows. You will be closely supported by your supervisor and our team of experienced psychologists, so you can focus on learning and developing your clinical skills. This role will involve:
• Providing psychological assessment and evidence-based treatment to clients, with presentations carefully matched to your experience and developing competencies.
• Developing skills in clinical assessment, case formulation, treatment planning and intervention.
• Developing your psychological assessment skills, with additional support available from our Head of Assessments
• Working closely with experienced psychologists and supervisors to develop your clinical knowledge and confidence.
• Gradually building your clinical caseload at a pace appropriate to your experience and development. Your intake work: On your intake days, you will be part of our close-knit intake team. This role is a great way to build your confidence in clinical conversations, risk assessment and decision-making.

You will receive thorough training before starting, and senior psychologists are always on hand for risk, escalation or anything you’re unsure about. This role will involve:
• Responding to enquiries from prospective clients and making outgoing calls to assist clients with accessing psychological services.
• Gathering relevant clinical information, understanding presenting concerns and identifying clients' treatment needs.
• Conducting initial risk screening and identifying situations requiring further clinical assessment or escalation.
• Carefully matching clients with psychologists based on their presenting concerns, therapeutic needs and clinician expertise.
• Working collaboratively with our intake, administration and clinical teams to ensure clients have a positive experience from their very first contact with the practice. Our Principal Psychologist supports the intake team directly, with weekly meetings to discuss complex enquiries, risk and client matching. We see the intake component as a genuine learning opportunity and a valuable part of your development as a psychologist. You will gain exposure to a broad range of psychological presentations, strengthen your clinical communication and assessment skills, develop your ability to recognise and respond to risk, and build your understanding of how clients are matched with appropriate psychological treatment. Why you will love working with us Excellent supervision and professional development opportunities We are passionate about supporting early career psychologists to develop their skills, confidence and professional identity. We will provide the Psychology Board-approved supervision required for your 5+1 internship as part of your employment, at no additional cost to you. Alongside formal onsite supervision, you will be part of a smaller clinical team with a dedicated Team Leader and have access to experienced psychologists for informal case discussions, guidance and debriefing. We never want our early career psychologists to feel alone in their work, and there will always be someone available to ask questions or talk through a challenging situation. We also run team professional development sessions every two months, alongside group supervision covering topics such as Schema Therapy, Feminist Psychology, Child and Adolescence and other areas of clinical interest. Some professional development is provided as paid work time, and these opportunities can contribute to the 60 hours of education and training required for your internship. We have a team of psychologists who genuinely enjoy learning from one another, sharing ideas and developing their skills together. Support to build your assessment skills We know that meeting the psychological assessment competency can feel daunting, and that finding enough assessment experience during an internship isn’t always easy. Assessment is a core part of our practice, and our team includes experienced educational and developmental psychologists who love sharing what they know. Alongside your supervisor,

our Head of Assessments can provide additional support to help you build your confidence and skills in this area. An opportunity to develop your skills gradually We don't expect early career psychologists to know everything or feel confident with every presentation from day one We provide a structured induction and carefully match clients to your experience and developing competencies. Your clinical caseload will build gradually, with opportunities to learn, ask questions and develop confidence along the way. A genuinely supportive team Personality fit is really important to us. We have worked hard to build a warm, positive and cohesive team where people enjoy coming to work, feel comfortable being themselves and develop strong relationships with their colleagues. A diverse and compelling clinical environment We have an extensive referral base and work with clients presenting with a broad range of psychological difficulties. Our team has expertise across many areas, including CBT, Schema Therapy, DBT, EMDR, Emotion Focused Therapy, perinatal psychology, eating disorders, neurodivergence, ADHD and autism assessment. There are plenty of opportunities to learn from experienced clinicians with different areas of interest and expertise. You will also be surrounded by senior psychologists with areas of interest in child and adolescent psychology, psychological assessment, women’s health, eating disorders and clinical psychology. A salaried position with reliable income

We offer
a salary of approximately $80,000 per annum plus superannuation, together with fully funded 5+1 internship supervision. You will enjoy the security of salaried employment while developing your clinical skills in a supportive private practice environment. A workplace where people genuinely enjoy being together We love creating opportunities for our team to connect, whether through informal chats, lunchtime discussions or our regular social events. We take our work seriously, but we also believe that work should be enjoyable and that having great colleagues makes a huge difference Opportunities beyond your internship We would love this position to be the beginning of a long-term relationship with the right person. As you move toward general registration, there will be opportunities to continue developing your clinical interests and career within our practice. What we are looking for We are looking for someone who:
• Is eligible to undertake the 5+1 internship pathway toward general registration as a psychologist.
• Is warm, approachable, personable and genuinely enjoys connecting with people.
• Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to help prospective clients feel comfortable and understood.
• Is enthusiastic about developing their clinical skills and committed to providing thoughtful, evidence-based psychological care.
• Has sound foundational knowledge of psychological assessment, risk assessment and intervention, and is keen to continue learning.
• Is organised, reliable and comfortable balancing clinical responsibilities with the demands of a busy intake service.
• Enjoys working collaboratively and values feedback, supervision and professional development.
• Has a positive, flexible and easy-going approach to working as part of a team. Above all, we are looking for someone who will be a great fit for our team, who genuinely cares about the clients we work with and who is excited about developing into a skilled and confident psychologist.
