Naturaliste Charters, Western Australia’s premier Eco Tourism operator, is on the lookout for an experienced and enthusiastic Deckhand to join our passionate crew. With over 30 years in the industry, we pride ourselves on delivering world-class wildlife encounters with exceptional customer service at the heart of everything we do.
About the Role
This is a hands-on, customer-facing role suited to someone who thrives on the ocean and enjoys working with people. You’ll be an integral part of our onboard team, supporting the safe operation of our vessels while helping deliver unforgettable experiences to our guests.
Our operating locations and seasons:
- Augusta (May – August)
- Dunsborough (August – November)
- Bremer Bay (December – April) — Accommodation provided during this season
Key Responsibilities
- Mooring and unmooring vessels (line handling and ropes)
- Assisting the Skipper with vessel operations and safety protocols
- Driving tenders confidently when required
- Delivering engaging and informative commentary to guests
- Greeting and assisting passengers onboard
- Maintaining cleanliness and presentation of the vessel at all times
- Supporting wildlife spotting and ensuring guest satisfaction
- Assisting in emergency procedures and safety drills
- General deck duties and maintenance
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working on commercial vessels
- Based in the Margaret River region and looking for a long-term opportunity
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills
- Well presented, confident, and professional demeanour
- Positive, flexible attitude with a strong work ethic
- Able to work varied hours, including weekends and public holidays
- Willingness to travel and live away from home during the Bremer Bay season
Qualifications Required
- Recreational Skipper’s Ticket (RST) – essential
- Coxswain Grade 1 or 2 certificate – highly desirable
- Tender driving experience – essential
- Current First Aid & CPR – preferred
