Coding Coach / Educator (Casual)
Skill Samurai Elsternwick, Elsternwick VIC

Skill Samurai Elsternwick is a coding and STEM education centre for kids aged 6 to 16. We run weekly Coding and 3D Printing classes at our centre, after-school coding programs at schools in Melbourne’s south-east, and school holiday camps. We’re growing, with new locations opening across metropolitan Melbourne. Kids work at their own pace on their own projects, with coaches on hand to guide them and help them become confident problem-solvers.

We’re looking for casual Coding Coaches to join us for after-school classes at our centre and at schools, Saturday mornings and school holiday camps.

Why join us

- A fun, rewarding role working with kids who love technology
- Full training provided, including our coaching approach
- Flexible casual shifts that fit around study
- A great starting point for a career in education or technology

What you’ll do

- Support students aged 6 to 16 as they work through their own coding and 3D design projects at their own pace
- Guide students when they’re stuck, helping them build problem-solving skills so they can work things out for themselves
- Supervise the classroom and provide a high standard of care at all times
- Prepare the classroom before sessions and follow centre procedures for opening, closing and presentation
- Communicate warmly and professionally with students, parents, school staff and other coaches
- Attend paid staff meetings and training

Who we’re looking for
Our ideal coach brings both coding skills and experience working with children. This could be:

- A high school student in Year 10 or above who loves coding and has helped younger kids through tutoring, coaching, sport, camps or volunteering
- A CS/IT student or graduate who has also tutored, coached, taught, run holiday programs or worked with kids in another setting

- An Education student or graduate with some coding experience (block coding, Python, JavaScript, Java or similar)

Experience working with children is highly regarded but not mandatory. If you have strong coding skills and a genuine interest in working with kids, we’d still love to hear from you. No tertiary qualifications required.

You’ll also have:

- Patience, energy and the confidence to supervise a room of young learners
- The ability to guide without simply giving the answer
- Confidence speaking with parents about their child’s progress
- A professional approach to appearance, communication and reliability
- Openness to direction, feedback and learning on the job
- The ability to move between several students who need help at once

A driver’s licence and access to a car is an advantage, as some after-school programs run at schools across metropolitan Melbourne.
