They believe in building and setting a reputable culture, recognising, and rewarding their people who represent those core values either onsite, with clients, or in the local communities.
About the role
As one of our Secondary Electrical Engineers, you will lead protection, control and SCADA design for HV and EHV substations and transmission projects up to 500 kV. You will work across utility, renewable energy and network projects, taking designs from concept through to commissioning. You’ll also be the technical go-to for our graduate and junior engineers in the team.
What you’ll do:
- Lead secondary systems design and technical review for HV/EHV substations, transmission lines and renewable grid connections (solar, wind and BESS).
- Design protection and control schemes for transformers, feeders, busbars and GIS/AIS switchgear. This includes CT/VT selection and specification.
- Develop IEC 61850 substation automation, SCADA and communications architectures.
- Design auxiliary systems, including AC/DC supplies, battery systems and secondary cabling.
- Perform and review protection studies: short circuit, protection coordination and settings, and arc flash.
- Support grid connection and compliance work under NER Chapter 5, including generator performance standards and NSP/TNSP requirements, working alongside our power systems team.
- Provide technical input during tenders: scope development,
RFQs, vendor assessment, technical bid evaluation and contract documentation.
- Support testing and commissioning, including FAT/SAT and resolving site issues.
- Mentor graduate and junior engineers, and review their work.
How you can support CoMade
- A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
- Min 8+ years in HV secondary design, ideally on 132 kV+ substations and renewable connection projects.
- Experience delivering for TNSPs and DNSPs, and familiarity with their design standards.
- Hands-on experience with protection relay platforms such as SEL, Siemens, GE or Hitachi Energy. Experience with their configuration tools is a plus.
- Working knowledge of AS/NZS and IEC standards, the National Electricity rules and AEMO connection processes.
- Familiarity with study tools such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, CAPE or ETAP.
- Enough CAD knowledge (MicroStation, AutoCAD or Revit) to direct and check drafting.
- Chartered status (CPEng) and NER registration, or working towards them, is highly regarded. RPEQ is advantageous for Queensland projects.
