Why Smart?
Look forward to working with Australia’s leading and most trusted provider of Employee Management Services, making the benefits of salary packaging, novated leasing, and fleet management readily available to employers and their employees.
Working at Smartgroup offers more than a job. It is a dynamic workplace that matches the enthusiasm for the work you do and ambition for an exciting fast-paced career. We have all been hired for a purpose and a reason.
Every day you will be part of a team that helps support fellow Australians - many working in essential services, corporates, government, and not-for-profits - to take home more money in their pay packets.
About the role
We’re looking for a Product Owner, Acquisition & Activation to help shape and grow a new acquisition capability within the business. You’ll own and continuously improve the customer journey from digital discovery through registration, onboarding and benefit take-up, using data, experimentation and customer insight to identify where the greatest value can be unlocked.
This is more than a digital delivery role. You’ll have the opportunity to establish how we approach acquisition as a product discipline, bringing together customer experience, conversion, SEO and emerging AI-driven discovery, experimentation and acquisition economics to drive meaningful customer and commercial outcomes.
Key responsibilities:
- Own and optimise the end-to-end acquisition and activation funnel, from digital discovery and consideration through to registration, onboarding and product uptake.
- Identify opportunities to improve conversion and activation by analysing customer behaviour, funnel performance and points of friction or drop-off.
- Develop and run experiments, including A/B testing, to test hypotheses and use evidence to guide product decisions and priorities.
- Partner with Marketing, UX, Engineering, BA and other specialists to improve organic acquisition, SEO, AI-driven discovery and the broader digital customer experience.
- Connect acquisition activity to commercial outcomes, considering measures such as cost to acquire (CAC), conversion and customer value when prioritising investment.
- Own the product priorities, balancing growth opportunities with customer needs, technology constraints, risk and longer-term platform requirements.
Skills and experience:
You’ll bring
- Robust experience working across digital acquisition and conversion funnels, ideally with direct ownership or accountability for acquisition performance.
- Hands-on experience with A/B testing and structured experimentation, including developing hypotheses, defining success measures and translating results into product decisions.
- A practical understanding of SEO, with an interest in or understanding of emerging AI-driven search and discovery (AIO) and its impact on customer acquisition.
- Strong commercial acumen, including an understanding of customer acquisition cost (CAC) and the ability to connect funnel performance with meaningful commercial outcomes.
- Strong analytical capability and confidence working directly with funnel and customer behaviour data, with experience using tools such as Google Analytics, Hotjar, Glassbox or equivalent being valuable.
- Strong product judgement and prioritisation skills, with the ability to turn customer and commercial insights into clear problems, hypotheses and opportunities.
What’s in it for you? Smart team members enjoy a range of benefits designed to support flexibility, wellbeing, reward, and growth:
- Smart Leave, an additional week of leave each year
- Free lunch every week
- Up to 20 weeks Paid Parental Leave with superannuation contributions and a Return-to-Work Bonus
- Make a Difference Days – paid days off to volunteer for the community and environment
- Discounted retail vouchers
- Salary packaging and novated leasing benefits (of course!)
- Free flu vaccinations
- Employee Share Plan
