ABOUT SKY HSC COLLEGE
SKY HSC College is a tutoring college for Years 7–12 (Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and English) in Strathfield Plaza, directly opposite Strathfield station. We are a small, close team led by HSC specialists with 10 to 25 years of teaching experience.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Teach Years 7–12 English in 1:1 and small-group lessons at our Strathfield campus
- Teach HSC English Standard and Advanced – text analysis, essay structure and writing, and exam technique (Extension 1, Extension 2 and EAL/D too, if you can teach them)
- Give students transparent, specific feedback on their writing
ESSENTIAL
- At least one year of experience teaching high school English (as a tutor or a teacher)
- Able to teach English Standard and Advanced (Years 11–12)
- Evidence that you can teach these courses well: your HSC English results (if you completed the NSW HSC) and details of your Years 11–12 English teaching
- Excellent written and spoken English, and the ability to explain ideas simply to teenagers
- Reliability: you turn up on time, prepared, and give us as much notice as you can if you can't make a lesson
Preferred: able to teach Extension 1, Extension 2 and/or EAL/D; a teaching qualification or NESA accreditation; tutoring-college or classroom experience.
HOURS
Casual, weekday afternoons/evenings (from 4 pm) and weekends. Lessons are usually one hour.
Lesson times are agreed with you as students are matched to your availability.
PAY
- From A$45 per hour (casual), with higher rates for experienced tutors. Pay details are discussed with shortlisted applicants.
REQUIREMENTS
- Australian work rights for the advertised hours (checked before you start)
- A current NSW Working With Children Check clearance for paid work, verified by us before any lesson, including a trial lesson (an application in progress is not enough)
HOW WE SELECT – TWO PAID TRIAL LESSONS
Instead of a formal interview, shortlisted applicants teach two one-hour trial lessons with students at our Strathfield campus. Trial lessons are paid. Our decision is based on how these two lessons go. We'll give shortlisted applicants the details.
HOW TO APPLY
Apply on Indeed with your resume and a cover letter, and answer all the screening questions. Your cover letter must tell us clearly:
- exactly which courses you can teach (Years 7–10, Standard, Advanced, Extension 1, Extension 2, EAL/D) and how much experience you have teaching each one;
- for each course, the texts you have taught or are ready to teach (say which);
- your English teaching experience – where, which courses, which year groups (for example Years 11–12), and for how long;
- if you completed the NSW HSC: your English courses and results (band or mark);
- your full weekly availability, with times for each day.
Applications without this information can't be considered.
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and assess every application against the requirements of the role.
