Brunel is proud to partner with ASC, Australia's sovereign submarine company, to appoint a Senior Audit Specialist in WA. ASC plays a vital role in Australia's maritime strategy and national security, and with its WA operation growing, this is a rare chance to help shape how a nationally significant business manages its risks.

About the role
Reporting to the Group Internal Audit Manager, you'll lead audits from the Audit Committee-approved Internal Audit Plan and play a key role in helping ASC manage its risks well. That means testing how controls work in practice, spotting emerging risks early and giving senior leaders and the Audit Committee practical insights they can act on.

As the first Group Internal Audit role based in WA, you'll be the face of the function locally, building its profile and trusted relationships with senior WA stakeholders. While you'll be part of a supportive national team, you'll have a high degree of independence and the chance to lay the foundations for a growing local team. The environment is complex and fast-moving, and involves sensitive and classified information. Key responsibilities include:

- Lead internal audits and fraud investigations from scoping and planning through to testing and the final report, sometimes managing several audits at once
- Prepare working papers with enough audit evidence to support findings, in line with the IIA International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF)
- Assess key operational, financial and compliance risks and controls each year to inform the Audit Universe and annual Audit Plan
- Track progress on agreed management actions and confirm, based on evidence, when they can be closed
- Help the Group Internal Audit Manager prepare Board and Audit Committee papers, and represent Group Internal Audit at senior forums when required
- Keep up with IIA developments, help review the Audit Charter and complete 40 hours of professional development each year

Qualifications

- A degree in Finance,

Accounting or a related business field (Master's preferred)
- Membership of, or eligibility for membership of, the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA)

Skills and experience

- 10+ years in internal audit, including at least 5 years in a large, complex organisation
- A thorough understanding of the IIA IPPF and how to apply it in practice
- A track record of agreeing findings and recommendations with General Managers and executives
- Experience developing risk-based Internal Audit Plans aligned to organisational goals
- Confidence managing audits from scoping through to final report
- Solid analytical, problem-solving and report writing skills, with the ability to explain complex findings clearly and briefly
- Sound knowledge of corporate governance, internal controls, risk management and compliance
- A focus on continuous improvement, including using data analytics to target the highest-risk areas
- Experience in Defence, infrastructure or other asset-intensive industries is highly regarded

About you
You're a seasoned internal audit professional who takes ownership of your work and confidently manages your own priorities. You build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders and influence them with credibility. You're known for your professionalism, integrity and respectful approach, and you have the confidence to raise difficult issues constructively and stand firm when it matters.

What's on offer

- A foundation role in WA within a growing Group Internal Audit function
- Visibility across every part of a nationally significant Defence business
- Competitive salary plus super and a performance bonus
- Hybrid working arrangements

Security requirements
