Recruitment LABS
North Sydney
Overview
Salary: $150,000 - $170,000 + Super
Location: North Sydney (hybrid, 3 days per week in the office)
Contract: 3-month contract, with a genuine opportunity for permanent
Focus: Consolidated financial reporting, Power BI and reporting automation
Availability: Must be immediately available, or very close to it.
The Opportunity
Plenty of finance teams have reporting that is too manual. Very few will admit it. This one says it out loud, and wants someone to fix it.
That honesty is a good place to start. Our client is a seriously fun business to be part of and one you’ll be talking about at barbeques. The operations are growing, the finance team is fresh, and the Finance Director is the kind of leader people genuinely want to work for.
The reporting, on the other hand, hasn’t quite kept pace. Monthly packs come together through a lot of manual work and quiet sighing. Everyone can see there’s a better way. Nobody has had the time to build it.
That’s where you come in. You’ll own reporting across all major business lines and consolidate it up to the parent company. Then you’ll work through the process systematically and rebuild it properly: dashboards instead of static packs, automated feeds instead of manual pulls, and a reporting process that no longer depends on someone remembering which tab to refresh.
It starts as a 3-month contract, but for the right person who demonstrates their value, there’s a real view to permanent. Show the business what good looks like, and there’s every chance you’ll be the one running it.
Role Profile
- Prepare and deliver monthly consolidated management reporting across all major business lines, rolling up accurately and on time to the parent company. This is the core of the role, and it needs to be right before it gets clever.
- Provide variance analysis against budget, forecast and prior year, with commentary that explains what is driving the numbers rather than simply restating them.
- Map the current reporting process end to end, find where the manual effort is hiding, and build a prioritised plan to take it out.
- Design and maintain Power BI dashboards that give the Finance Director and business leaders self service access to the numbers they ask for most.
- Use Power Query, Power Pivot and Power Automate (plus Python or SQL if they’re in your toolkit) to automate recurring data pulls, reconciliations and report production.
- Standardise reporting templates so every business line is measured the same way, and the consolidation stops being a monthly jigsaw puzzle.
- Explore practical uses of AI tools such as Copilot to speed up analysis and commentary, while keeping controls and data integrity tight.
- Partner closely with the Finance Director, the wider finance team and business stakeholders, turning their requirements into reporting people actually use.
- Document what you build, so it keeps working long after the month you built it.
Successful Candidate Profile
We’re looking for a strong finance professional who also happens to be very, very good with the Power suite. The finance background matters as much as the tech. The slickest dashboard in the world doesn’t help anyone if the numbers underneath it are wrong. The ideal background will include:
- A solid financial reporting background within a corporate finance environment, ideally including consolidated or multi entity reporting.
- Advanced Excel and genuine hands on Power BI experience. You’ve built dashboards people rely on, not just completed the course.
- Strong working knowledge of Power Query, Power Pivot and Power Automate,
with a track record of automating work that used to be done by hand.
- Exposure to SAP or another major ERP will be highly regarded.
- A systematic, continuous improvement mindset. You’re the person who watches a manual task get done three times and starts building the fix.
- Transparent communication with finance and non finance stakeholders alike, and the confidence to put fresh ideas on the table.
- CA or CPA qualified, part qualified or working towards it will be well regarded, although practical capability will carry more weight.
- Immediate availability.
This could suit a Financial Reporting Analyst, FP&A; Analyst or Reporting Accountant who has quietly become the unofficial “Power BI person” in their current team and would love a role where that is the actual job. It could equally suit an experienced contractor who enjoys walking into a manual process and leaving behind something that largely runs itself.
