January – February 2027 | 8-Week Appointment | Accommodation Provided at Mackerel Islands

Ever dreamed of having a beautiful island almost entirely to yourselves?

Mackerel Islands is seeking a reliable, practical and self-sufficient couple to care for our island paradise, located off the coast of Onslow in Western Australia's spectacular Pilbara region.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced couple who enjoy remote living, fishing, the outdoors and a quieter pace of life.

With our tourism operations closed for the summer, you'll be responsible for keeping an eye on the island and its facilities until our seasonal team returns in March.

The Role

This is a low-hours caretaking position, with approximately two hours of daily duties, allowing plenty of downtime to enjoy island life.

Responsibilities include:

- Daily checks of buildings, facilities and essential infrastructure.
- Monitoring water, power and wastewater systems.
- Basic maintenance, grounds upkeep and general repairs as required.
- Identifying and reporting maintenance or operational concerns.
- Monitoring weather conditions and following cyclone preparation and emergency procedures.
- Maintaining regular communication with our management team.

About You

We're looking for a couple who are:

- Practical, resourceful and comfortable working independently.
- Experienced in general maintenance,

ideally with a trade or strong handyman background.
- Familiar with remote living, caravan parks, stations or similar caretaking environments.
- Confident following safety and emergency procedures.
- Comfortable with their own company and living in an isolated location.

A Recreational Skipper's Ticket and boating experience would be highly regarded.

What's on Offer?

- An incredible prospect to experience island living in the Pilbara.
- Accommodation provided on Thevenard Island.
- Approximately eight weeks from early January to early March 2027.
- Limited daily duties and plenty of personal time.
- Remuneration and employment arrangements to be discussed with suitable applicants.

Please note: This is a remote island position requiring a responsible and self-reliant couple. Due to the accommodation and operational arrangements, the position is not suitable for pets or accompanying family members.
