Apple City Tours is seeking an Assistant Depot Manager to work alongside the Operations Manager in leading our Orange depot and delivering safe, reliable school bus, charter and employee transport services.

As the depot’s 2IC, you will combine staff leadership with administration, operational coordination and compliance support. You will assist with daily operational matters, resolve problems and work closely with employees, clients and subcontractors to keep services running smoothly. The role requires initiative, sound judgement and the confidence to make decisions within your authority while recognising when to escalate matters.

We are looking for someone who remains calm under pressure, builds positive working relationships and provides clear direction and fair, consistent leadership. Once approved by TfNSW as a designated manager, you will also act in the Operations Manager’s position when required.

Key responsibilities;

- Supporting the safe, compliant and efficient operation of the depot.
- Coordinating daily operational priorities and responding to service-delivery issues.
- Supervising depot employees, including drivers, mechanics, cleaning and administration staff.
- Assisting with staff performance, workplace matters, training and investigations.
- Supporting the administration of the Safety Management System and maintaining accurate compliance records.
- Coordinating responses to operational and safety incidents.
- Liaising professionally with TfNSW, clients, subcontractors and other stakeholders.
- Monitoring driver-safety systems and following up identified events.
- Participating in a shared after-hours on-call roster,



generally alternating one week on and one week off.

About you;

You will have:

- Demonstrated management or supervisory experience.
- Strong office administration, computer, recordkeeping and written-communication skills.
- Sound judgement and the confidence to make practical operational decisions.
- The ability to remain calm, skilled and solutions-focused under pressure.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to manage workplace issues diplomatically.
- Initiative, accountability and the ability to follow matters through to completion.
- A current Class C driver licence.
- A current NSW Working with Children Check, or the ability to obtain one before commencing.
- A willingness and ability to complete the company-funded TfNSW Bus Operator Accreditation Scheme training, including travelling to Sydney to sit and pass the required examination, and meet TfNSW’s requirements for nomination as a designated manager within six months.

Previous bus or transport experience is not essential. Experience in a safety-critical or compliance-focused workplace will be viewed favourably.

Experience with staff scheduling, payroll administration or driver-safety technology would also be advantageous.

The ordinary hours are 9.00 am to 5.30 pm, Monday to Friday, with reasonable flexibility when operational issues arise.

Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory National Police Check and pre-employment drug-and-alcohol screening. As a Transport Safety Employee, the successful applicant will participate in Apple City Tours’ regular drug-and-alcohol testing program.
