About the role
We are looking for a Community Worker to improve access to local services and opportunities for people with disability and their families. You will consult with participants and community groups to identify shared needs, then work with local organisations to address service gaps and develop practical community initiatives.
Your duties
- Consult with people with disability, families, carers and community groups to identify barriers to accessing housing, health and welfare services, employment, training and recreation.
- Assess local services and resources across Western Sydney, identify gaps in access and recommend ways to address them.
- Plan and coordinate community initiatives with participants and local partners, such as accessible information sessions, social participation programs and workshops connecting people with employment or training services.
- Liaise with community organisations, welfare agencies, councils,
government services and local businesses to address shared community needs and improve referral pathways.
- Promote awareness of local services and explain how people with disability and their families can access them.
- Gather feedback, monitor participation and outcomes, and prepare reports to guide improvements to community programs.
What you’ll bring
- A Diploma of Community Services or a relevant qualification in community development, social welfare or disability services, or at least three years of relevant experience in community work.
- Experience assessing community needs, coordinating community programs or working with local service providers.
- An understanding of the barriers people with disability face when accessing mainstream and community services.
- Solid communication and report writing skills, with the ability to build working relationships across different organisations.
- A current driver’s licence and an NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willingness to obtain the check before commencing.
To apply, please submit your résumé and a short cover letter describing a community initiative you helped deliver or a service access issue you helped address.
