With work ramping up, we are seeking a qualified Heavy Diesel Mechanic or a 3rd or 4th year apprentice to join our growing team in Hobart. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of our continued expansion and contribute to AJL’s reputation for quality service and technical excellence.

Qualified Heavy Diesel Mechanics can earn $45–$50 per hour, depending on experience and capabilities. Apprentice wages will be based on year level, experience and applicable apprenticeship rates.

The Prospect

As a Diesel Mechanic at our Hobart site, you’ll be hands-on with diagnostics, repairs and maintenance of road transport vehicles. You’ll play a key role in building our local presence and upholding AJL’s high standards for safety, quality and efficiency.

For apprentices, this is a great opportunity to continue your trade in a well-equipped workshop, working alongside experienced tradespeople while gaining exposure to a broad range of road transport equipment and leading OEM products.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform diagnostics, repairs and scheduled maintenance on diesel engines, heavy commercial vehicles and associated equipment.

- Support the implementation and adherence to workshop procedures, ensuring compliance with safety, quality and operational efficiency standards.

- Diagnose faults and troubleshoot mechanical issues with a high level of precision and attention to detail.

- Contribute to a positive, collaborative and high-performing team environment.

- Work closely with the Workshop Manager to maintain productive workflow and support day-to-day workshop operations.

- Keep current with industry trends, technologies and best-practice maintenance techniques.

- Complete job cards, service reports,



inspection records and other documentation accurately and to a high professional standard.

About You

We welcome applications from both qualified Heavy Diesel Mechanics and 3rd or 4th year apprentices.

- Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent for qualified applicants.

- For apprentice applicants, currently completing a relevant Heavy Vehicle apprenticeship at 3rd or 4th year level.

- Hands-on mechanical experience, with road transport experience highly regarded.

- Strong diagnostic and repair capabilities appropriate to your level of experience.

- Good understanding of diesel and electronic systems.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

- Safety-focused, proactive and eager to continue developing your skills.
